The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
The manhunt continues for the terrorists who carried out the shooting attack at the Tapuach Junction yesterday. There are reports of an IDF raid on Madama south of Shechem where the terrorists are believed to have come from.
The rain of explosive balloons continues this morning. An Israeli driving between Kfar Aza and Mefalsim heard an explosion overhead and called police. They found a number of unexploded balloons in the area including this one:
Fortunately, this one did not explode.

PM Netanyahu holds the mandate to form a government until tomorrow at midnight.
As we reported yesterday, he seems to have reached an agreement with Naftali Bennett of the Yamina Party to form a minority government–with Bennett serving as Prime Minister for the coming year. Whether this will pass muster with President Rivlin is anyone’s guess.
To explain further about why it would be a minority government:
In terms of seats, the minority government would include: Likud (30), Shas (9), United Torah Judaism (7), and Yamina (7)–for a total of 53 seats. This group would be joined “on the outside” by the Islamic Ra’am Party with 4 seats. In essence, this bloc would control 57 seats.
Two obvious partners of the bloc, Religious Zionism (6 seats) and New Hope (6 seats) have both announced this morning that they will not join the bloc: Religious Zionism because of the presence of Ra’am, and New Hope because of the presence of Netanyahu. Despite the fact that Religious Zionism and New Hope will not join the bloc, Netanyahu is obviously counting on the fact that they will not oppose it in the Knesset.
So, we will soon see what happens.
Late breaking news: it is being reported that President Rivlin will not agree to the above arrangement and will instead task Yair Lapid with forming a government should Netanyahu fail.

Observations About The Tapuach Junction Attack Yesterday
Attempted stabbings, attempted IED attacks, “rock” and Molotov attacks: yesterday was an even more violent day than usual in Judea and Samaria.
However, the most violent attack occurred at the Tapuach Junction where Palestinian terrorists in a car pulled up to the bus stop and opened fire on the people standing there.
Three yeshiva students were wounded: 19-year-old Yehuda Guetta of Jerusalem critically; 19-year-old Benaya Peretz of Beit Shean seriously; and 19-year-old Amichai Hala lightly.
As of this morning, Guetta remains in critical condition fighting for his life; Peretz is in serious but stable condition; and Hala has been discharged from the hospital.
In terms of the terrorists, the Police have located the car but not the terrorists. The manhunt continues.
There has been much discussion today once again about how the terrorists managed to get away. After all, a group of soldiers were at the bus stop. Several of them, to their credit, managed to shoot back at the terrorists–however, everyone is wondering why more soldiers didn’t fire.
The answer of course is pathetically simple. After years of soldiers being prosecuted by the Military Prosecutor’s Office for defending themselves against terrorists, soldiers are loathe to open fire for fear of landing in military prison.
As usual, the Israel Police, the IDF, and the GSS are idiotically thrashing about to explain why the shooting attack as well as the other attacks yesterday took place. It is almost amusing to see what they have come up with this time.
The leading candidates:
1. The attacks happened because of the expulsion of several Arab families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem.
2. They happened because Hamas is upset that Mahmoud Abbas has indefinitely postponed Palestinian elections thereby denying Hamas an opportunity to take over Areas A and B.
3. They happened because the PLO has intensified its campaign of accusing Israel of trying to take over the Al-Aksa Mosque on the Temple Mount.
4. They happened because of an internecine struggle within the PLO for power. In this context, killing Israelis is the best way to show your bona fides.
Your humble servant says “almost amusing” because all of these avoid the simplest and most obvious reason of all.
Palestinian terrorists just want to murder Israelis.
