A Potpourri: Nasrallah’s Analysis, Border Fires, Jordanian Gall, American Policy, Mazar’s Passing
Nasrallah’s accurate analysis . . .
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave one of this weekly speeches yesterday–this time punctuated with coughing and evident difficulty breathing as if he is suffering from Covid. As we all know, Nasrallah is one of the world’s leading terrorists, yet his analyses of what is going on in the region are often spot on.
Here is what he said about our recent war with Palestinian Gaza:
“The campaign was an unprecedented achievement. A huge military achievement. Ben Gurion Airport canceled flights. 70% of Israelis were in bomb shelters. There were also psychological consequences. Imagine millions of Israelis living 11 days under alarms. In Jerusalem, in Tel Aviv, in Gush Dan.
Israeli officials talk about tactical achievements. What achievements? Destroying tall buildings, killing some old people. It does not require the strongest army in the region. They failed to prevent missiles from being launched. It was an intelligence failure. They did not know where the missiles were launched from and could not prevent them from being fired at cities even though they were given the exact launch times and launch targets by Hamas.”
As much as it pains us to say so, Nasrallah is absolutely correct on all points.
Farmers cause fires? . . .

Let us not be fooled, we are not stupid, it is clear to everyone that the fires are caused by balloons. I see the balloons, the terrorists in Gaza publish videos of balloon launches. There is no doubt where the fires are coming from.”

Speaking of bizarre, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry in Amman summoned the Israeli Ambassador yesterday to “strongly protest” the arrest of two heavily armed Jordanian citizens who crossed the border illegally near Beit She’an last week.

The Jordanians demanded that Jordanian Embassy personnel visit them as soon as possible to assess their situation and provide assistance.
The Jordanians went on to rant about the activities of the Israeli Police on the Temple Mount, alleged violations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the “violations of the rights of residents of Sheikh Jarrah.
Just unbelievable.
The U.S. renewing relations with the Palestinians . . .
White House Spokeswoman Jen Psaki proclaimed yesterday that “reopening the Palestinian Consulate in Jerusalem is the next natural step in renewing relations with the Palestinians.”
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi yesterday and the two of them decided to set up “civilian projects for Palestinians in the West Bank”–and to ask the Palestinians to stop incitement and to stop pursuing criminal charges against Israel in international venues.
Your humble servant doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The PLO has never stopped incitement against Israel, and there is no reason whatsoever to believe it will now. And does anyone really think that the PLO will drop charges against Israel at the ICC in The Hague?
Eilat Mazar dies . . .
It is with great sorrow that OneIsrael reports today that one of Israel’s leading archaeologists, Eilat Mazar, passed away yesterday at the young age of 66.
Mazar’s accomplishments were many, but it was her discoveries at Ir David in Jerusalem and at the Kotel which made her famous leading to her being called the “Queen of Jerusalem Archaeology.”
She was responsible for finding the large stone structure she identified as King David’s palace, Nehemiah’s Wall, the Solomonic Gate and Tower, the Ophel gold hoard, the bulla of Hezekiah–and many other items which confirmed what is written in the Torah.
Eilat Mazar will be sorely missed.
