Finally a deal is reached . . .
Coalition-to-be partners Likud and Religious Zionism reached an agreement yesterday. According to that agreement, the main positions that Religious Zionism will receive are:
The Ministry of Finance in rotation with Shas
The Ministry of Immigration and Absorption
The Ministry of National Missions
A deputy minister in the Ministry of Defense in charge of communities in Judea and Samaria (to act in coordination and agreement with the prime minister)
Chairmanship of the Constitution, Law and Justice committee in the Knesset that will lead the reform of the legal system in the Knesset
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Noxious Odor Emanating From The Departing Government
There is a distinctly unseemly smell coming from the departing government. Minister after minister is parading before whatever television camera or journalist he or she can find to lambaste the incoming government.
The leading producer of the noxious odor is outgoing PM Lapid who yesterday took the unprecedented step of publishing an open letter to all mayors and heads of city councils in which he urged all government officials not to cooperate with the “dark” elements of the incoming government.
Soon to be ex-Minister of “Defense” Benny Gantz has gone on rant after rant in the last 24 hours. One example:
“The Chief of Staff and commanders of the IDF have full backing . . . I am sure they will never bow to a system of political pressure.”
The simple fact is that the Chief of Staff and his minions in the General Command have full backing, but not the soldiers. What is more, the Defense Ministry under Gantz has been nothing but political.
Addendum:
Your humble servant is still in the United Arab Emirates where today, December 2, is the country’s festive “National Day” celebrating the creation of the UAE. Tomorrow, the journey south will begin.
Shabbat Shalom From the U.A.E.!
