The Problem With Egregious Hyperbole

The News on the Israeli Street

The Americans are in town . . .

As we have noted in recent blogs, Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and his entourage have arrived in Jerusalem.

And as we predicted, it has not taken long for Sullivan to absurdly demand that Israel:

*ease sanctions on the Palestinians (the sanctions imposed when the Palestinians went to the UN Security Council to gain a resolution sending a case to the International Court of Justice concerning the “illegal Israeli occupation.”)

*adhere to “democratic” values (an obvious sop to the anti-Netanyahu forces who claim that the current government is undemocratic).

Speaking of the Americans . . .

If you have ever taken a drive in Israel (especially in the north), you will see nondescript, unmarked warehouses along the side of the roads. It is no secret that these warehouses contain American weapons that have been prepositioned in the case of Israel needing them in a war.

Now it turns out that some of those weapons are being shipped to Ukraine in what is being described as a “shift in priorities.”

Speaking of the Americans again . . .

If you remember, the Biden Administration has had what one commentator termed “a pathological aversion” to the term “Abraham Accords.” Instead of this phrase coined by the Trump Administration, all Bidenites have been instructed to use the phrase “normalization agreements.”

Not only that but Biden ditched the Abraham Accords in favor of his pursuit of another agreement when the Iranians.

Now that the new Iranian deal is going nowhere fast, the Abraham Accords are back with the U.S. now working to add countries to the Accords.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Problem With Egregious Hyperbole

The egregious “anti-judicial reform” hyperbole now spewing forth from the mouths of current and past government officials is simply beyond the pale.

Just consider the last 24 hours.

“The proposed Levin judicial reform is a a pogrom.”

Former Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein

A pogrom? By definition, “a pogrom is a violent riot incited with the aim of massacring or expelling an ethnic or religious group, particularly Jews.” Weinstein has gone completely off his rocker.

or how about:

“The proposed Levin judicial reform will result in the destruction of the state.”

Dan Meridor, former Minister of Justice

The destruction of the state? Giving the Knesset the power under certain conditions to overcome a Supreme Court decision will destroy Israel? Meridor has gone around the bend.

or how about:

“The proposed Levin judicial reform will fatally damage the IDF and the reserve units.”

Current Benny Gantz party member and former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizonkot.

Fatally damage the IDF and reserve units? Good grief. Eizenkot has fallen off the deep end.

Words and phrases have meaning, but in today’s political environment they are being falsely tossed around to incite opposition–perhaps violent opposition–to the government. The current crowd favorite is that the democratically elected a government of Israel carried out a coup d’etat.

It won’t be long until we will see placards proclaiming and speakers declaring that we are on the verge of a holocaust.

On that unhappy note, OneIsrael wishes you:

SHABBAT SHALOM!
