–>”We are all Border Guards.”
A heartwarming campaign has begun online in which former Border Guards as well as everyday citizens are proclaiming in their Facebook profiles “We are all Border Guards.” This is being done to remember Border Guard Hadar Cohen who was killed at the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem two weeks ago.
There has also been a surge in new parents naming their daughters “Hadar.”
–>Russian FM Sergei Lavrov met with Tzipi Livni in Munich yesterday.
Say what? What in the world is Tzipi Livni–who has no Israeli governmental affiliation whatsoever–doing meeting with the Russian FM?
Apparently, the meeting was an opportunity for Lavrov and Livni to push the so-called Arab “Peace” Initiative. Calling for the movement of 5,000,000+ Palestinian “refugees” into Israel, the Initiative is a non-starter.
But that won’t stop Livni who must be suffering terribly now that her jetsetter card has been revoked.
–>As if the Lavrov-Livni meeting were not enough . . .
We also had the spectacle of our so-called “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan yesterday in Munich.
And what were they talking about? Advancing the peace process with the Palestinians.
There is no peace process to advance.
TODAY’S BLOG
Representatives of the International Monetary Fund have just wound up a week-long visit to Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria (aka “the West Bank”) and Gaza. Rather remarkably, the IMF group has already released its report on the economic situation in those Palestinian areas.
What they found is that economic growth in 2015 was 2.8% and that economic growth is not supposed to exceed 3% in 2016. According to the IMF, this economic growth is the result of foreign donations and grants.
Interestingly, the 2.8% and 3% numbers are reported by the IMF as if they are an economic disaster (how many countries would love to have those numbers?).
And, an indictment of Israeli policy.
To hear the IMF tell the tale, the situation in Gaza is especially troublesome because the Gazan economy has slowed down because of the slow pace of aid from Israel, restrictions on the import of building materials, and the difficult humanitarian situation. But, according to the IMF, the same is true in Areas A and B. Because of Israel, it says, investment remains weak, and grants and donations have fallen sharply.
Isn’t it amazing that after more than 20 years of Palestinian rule in Areas A and B, and 10 years of rule in Gaza, the Palestinians cannot generate any economic growth themselves? The hundreds of millions of dollars that have poured into these areas during these time periods have gone straight into the corrupt pockets of Palestinian leaders.
And isn’t it amazing that after all of this time, the world still considers it Israel’s responsibility to look after the “poor, oppressed, childlike Palestinians”?
What really should have been indicted by the IMF is Palestinian corruption and infantilism.
