The News On The Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
In Judea and Samaria:
*Palestinian terrorists in a car opened fire on IDF troops positioned in the Hevron Hills near the north Halhul Junction. No soldiers were wounded, and the terrorists escaped. The troops were there to stop the numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks being carried out by terrorists against Israeli motorists.
*A Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife attempted to stab Border Police at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron. No Israelis were wounded; the terrorist was captured.
*Palestinian terrorists set fire to the Gush Etzion Forest.
*Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis at Luban a-Sharqiya, Al-Khader, Shilo, Beit Ummar, Migdalim, El Aruv, and the Tapuach Junction among other places.

A proposed new law that is going nowhere . . .
The Knesset Welfare Committee is drafting a law that should have been drafted long ago.
Specifically it would put a stop to medical payments that Israel pays to convicted terrorists in Israeli prisons for their medical treatment. At present, Israeli taxpayers fork out more than 25 million shekels a year for such treatment.
The wording of the proposed law begins with: “the rationale behind this determination is that whoever acted out of an ideology that undermines the existence of the state will not receive medical treatment for the funding of the citizens he sought to harm.”
What could be more logical, right?
However, there is no logic when it comes to Israel’s Supreme Court. Just as soon as the Knesset passes this law, the Court will strike it down based on “humanitarian” grounds.
Speaking of logic and the lack thereof . . .
Led by the Greek Orthodox, Armenian Patriarch, and Catholic churches, Christian leaders in Jerusalem accused the Israeli government of “scandalous” behavior this week involving the proposal of another new law.
This law aims to nationalize properties once owned by these churches which were sold to private individuals and corporations. Most of the properties now contain housing developments.
According to the religious leaders, the proposed new law “constitutes a systematic and unprecedented attack against the Christians of the Land, and violates the most basic rights, thus trampling on the delicate fabric of relations between the Christian community and the State of Israel for decades.”
Say what?
Churches sold their properties to generate funds for themselves. And now they want to claim that Israel taking action in regard to these properties somehow is an attack on Christians?
What horse manure.
The truth is that the Christian community in Jerusalem is almost exclusively Palestinian–and the thought that their former properties might be commandeered by Israel is an anathema to them.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Total “Humanitarian” Insanity Infecting Israel
No matter which way your humble servant looks this morning, all he sees is “humanitarian” insanity.
Whether it is letting people into this country that want to destroy it, or letting a million Muslims onto the Temple Mount where they wave Islamic State flags and chant for Israel’s demise, or letting an illegal Palestinian settlement remain standing out of humanitarian concerns, or letting the Gazan families of incarcerated terrorists visit them in prison, this country is rapidly sliding into a humanitarian abyss.
Here are two examples from today.
Let’s start on the Gaza border where it was revealed yesterday that in the most recent security cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu and the IDF General Command argued that humanitarian aid to Gaza in the form of fuel and other supplies cannot be conditional on the cessation of incendiary balloons and kites and the cessation of infiltration attacks at the border fence.
In fact, the IDF spent the entire cabinet meeting bemoaning the humanitarian situation in Gaza to the point of even presenting a Rand report talking about how military pressure against Hamas will only exacerbate the situation. Netanyahu agreed.
Yes, you read all of that correctly.
According to Netanyahu and the IDF, we cannot demand that Hamas stop the attacks because–to quote them– “it sets a high bar that cannot be met.”
Say what? We cannot demand that our citizens and soldiers not be attacked?
To underscore the point, our so-called “security” cabinet ordered that 1.8 million liters of fuel be delivered to Gaza the next day (Monday), and 2000 gallons of diesel fuel along with 85 tons of gas yesterday–even as the fires in Israel were raging.
This is lunacy of the first order, a lunacy born of humanitarian correctness gone berserk.
Let’s continue our observation of insanity with a look at what happened with Jordan yesterday.
As you know by now (click here to read Monday’s blog), King Abdullah of Jordan announced two days ago that Jordan is canceling parts of the Israel-Jordan peace treaty.
Yesterday, Jordan demanded that Israel provide it with more water for its humanitarian needs.
Say what?
As you may not know, according to the same “peace treaty” that Jordan partially abrogated, Israel agreed to supply Jordan with 45 million cubic meters of water per year; in recent years, Israel has increased this amount to 55 million cubic meters. This past summer, out of humanitarian concerns for Syrian refugees coming across the border into Jordan, Israel increased this amount even more (even though the “humanitarian” water was quickly diverted to rich Jordanian farmers along the border).
All of this has been to Israel’s detriment.
In the first place where is the water coming from? Mainly the Kineret (Sea of Galilee) which is steadily drying up.
A small island that appeared in the Kineret last year:
The same island today:
In the second place, Israel itself is drying up with parts of Israel, particularly in the north, suffering from severe water shortages. So severe that accelerated plans have begun for more desalination plants to supply water.
And yet, Jordan wants more water for so-called “humanitarian needs”, and Israel authorities think we should give it to them.
Yesterday, Giora Shaham, the head of the Israel Water Authority declared that that if we do not supply more water to Jordan it will “endanger the stability of our neighboring kingdom.”
Say what? Israel has no water, Jordan has stabbed us in the back, and we need to accede to Jordanian “humanitarian” demands for more water?
Total insanity.
