Asinine Quotation of the Day
“Israel’s annexation must not go without consequences. Together with our European partners we will look at how to respond crushingly.”
French Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Darien
Hmm. Let’s see. The French and most of their European partners do not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Israel’s sovereignty over eastern Jerusalem, Israel’s sovereignty over the Temple Mount, and Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
The only thing the French et. al, would recognize would be if Israel changed its name to “Palestine” tomorrow morning and the Knesset were turned over to the PLO and Hamas. Only then would they be happy.
Oh, and by the way Jean, Israel is not planning to annex anything because Judea and Samaria are ours already.
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
As we have been reporting for the last few months, Palestinian arson attacks have become a daily occurrence in Judea and Samaria. Yesterday a gigantic fire beside Kochav Hashachar was set by terrorists:

The daily Corona update . . .
As of 8 am this morning (Thursday):
There are 26,257 confirmed cases—an increase of 1013 since this time yesterday (and the most in one day since the Corona situation began months ago)
17,452 of these recovered—an increase of 111
57 are in serious condition—an increase of 5
24 are on ventilators—the same as yesterday
322 have died–an increase of 2
Every day sets a new record for confirmed cases in a single day–with 1013 yesterday– signaling that Corona is back with a vengeance. The number in “serious” condition continues to rise while the number on ventilators remains the same.

Layoffs are suddenly accelerating again throughout Israel with 900 workers in Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) earmarked for notices. A few hours ago, AMDOCS (an Israeli software services provider) announced that it is laying off 1000 workers.
El Al has canceled all flights—including all cargo flights.
The insanity of Corona testing . . .
One reason for the spike in confirmed Corona cases in Israel is the increase in the number of people being tested and the increase in the number of testing stations around the country. For example, multiple testing sites have been set up here in Ashdod.
I mention all of this because Israelis are now being blocked from entering such places as Europe and Egypt because of the increase in confirmed cases. The irony is that the European Union has given the green light to tourists from countries where there is little to no testing.
Virtually no testing is being done in Egypt. Yet yesterday, the Egyptian government opened all of the countries borders–including in the Sinai–to tourists from everywhere (except Israel). Thousands of tourists descended on the airports at Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh from Europe, especially the Ukraine–another place which has had very little testing proportionately.
Sovereignty: one house and one neighborhood at a time . . .
Jews aided by the wonderful Ateret Cohanim moved into another home in the Wadi Hilweh section of Silwan of Jerusalem yesterday, a home they had purchased from an Arab family. These brave Jews are literally redeeming eastern Jerusalem one house at a time:
Meanwhile, the cornerstone was laid for a new neighborhood in the Samarian community of Har Bracha yesterday.
TODAY’S BLOG
Keeping Our Eyes On The Sovereignty Prize
With the exception of the fact that a decision on sovereignty is now supposed to be announced next week, there is little concrete information to be had.
Yesterday, Settlement Minister Tzipi Hotovely attempted to shoot down all the news stories circulating about the talks between Israel and the Trump Administration, including information about demands, maps, concessions, etc.
Meanwhile, Christian evangelical leader Mike Evans who heads Friends of Zion had some good advice for all of us: “You need to calm down and not be hysterical, everything will be fine, as it was for Jerusalem.”
Evans went on to stress that without evangelical support, Trump stands little chance of being elected–and that unless the Trump Administration goes along with sovereignty, evangelicals will not vote for him.
This latter piece of information was a remarkable statement from a person who has steadfastly supported Trump during his presidency. But it is not an idle threat.
Evans organization has more than a million members, and John Hagee’s Christians United for Israel has another 8,000,000+. Along with other evangelical groups, they might well be enough to tip the balance in November.
In any case, it appears that PM Netanyahu has accelerated sovereignty discussions today both here in Israel and in the United States. Maybe we should all keep our eyes on the prize but calm down and see what happens.
When so much is hanging in the balance, that is hard to do.
