UPDATE: SOUTHERN ISRAEL REMAINS UNDER HIGHEST ALERT FOR POSSIBLE TERRORIST ATTACK. AT LEAST 5 HAMAS ROCKETS AND MORTARS WERE FIRED AT THE CITIZENS OF SOUTHERN ISRAEL IN THE LAST 24 HOURS.

The news has been so wrought with absurd contradictions this week that, even with the increased rocket fire in the South yesterday and today (see israelstreet breaking news), your humble servant feels compelled to spend today’s blog pointing out four of the more egregious ones:
1. On Monday, the IDF demolished three Jewish homes in the Samarian community of Migron (see my previous blog) after the homes were ruled ‘illegal’ by the Israel Supreme Court. On Wednesday, the IDF announced that it would no longer demolish illegally built Palestinian structures because ‘illegal’ Jewish buildings are not being demolished.

4. Jonathan Pollard has now languished in a U.S. prison for almost 25 years after being convicted of spying for Israel–and specifically providing Israel with information that helped it attack the Osirak Iraqi nuclear power facility. This week we now know that the U.S. has been spying on Israel for years if not decades by wiretapping the Israel Embassy in Washington, D.C.–a wiretapping that Pollard’s chief accuser Caspar Weinberger was almost certainly aware of (and probably authorized).
Some days your humble servant just wants to scream at the world.
