The Rapidly Disintegrating Situation In Judea And Samaria

The situation on the ground in Judea and Samaria is rapidly disintegrating because the Jewish communities there perceive that the IDF and Israeli police are doing little to protect them–and are in fact doing everything they can to uproot them. Ironically, these are the same complaints that the world and Israeli media attribute endlessly to the Palestinians.

Specifically, Israeli-Jewish community members are being attacked and killed; Israeli-Jewish property is being destroyed, Israeli-Jewish holy sites are being defaced, and Israeli-Jewish communities are being dismantled.

This blog has already reported extensively on the case of Asher Palmer and his nine month old son Jonatan who were killed when terrorists threw a rock through the window of the Palmer car causing it to flip over and crash near Hebron.

What made the Palmer situation even more horrific to many of us and especially to the Palmers’ community was the deliberate coverup of the crime by the IDF and the Israeli police who initially, despite all evidence to the contrary and for political reasons, termed the event an ‘accident.’ Even after the police had ‘changed’ their minds and  ‘decided’ that a terrorist attack and murders had occurred, the Israeli media completely ignored the story.

This morning, Shen Bet (the Israeli Security Agency) announced that two Palestinians have confessed to attacking the Palmers’ car, and three more Palestinians have confessed to stealing Asher Palmer’s gun–which was recovered during the investigation. All five Palestinians have been arrested. Yet even this news does not get the same coverage as the arrest of one 18-year-old Jewish teenager who has been arrested for the despicable vandalism at the Tuba Zangaria mosque.

The bold headline in large font in the Jerusalem Post this morning reads “Jewish Teen Held For Galilee Mosque Arson”. The small headline in a much smaller font boxed to the lower right of this headline reads “2 Palestinians Confess To Throwing Rock That Killed Father And Son”.

Jewish holy sites are being attacked. On Wednesday night or before, vandals defaced Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem (Nablus) with swastikas and other graffiti. Joseph’s Tomb is a highly revered Jewish holy site which is supposedly under the control of the PLO (Palestinian) Authority. In a tiny gesture to Jewish religious sensitivity, the Authority only permits Jewish supplicants to visit the Tomb once a month, late at night, under IDF escort.

On Wednesday night, an IDF contingent escorting 1300 worshipers discovered the swastikas on the walls–which obviously had been painted while the site was under the supposed supervision of Palestinian police. By the way, this was almost 11 years to the day, that Israeli policeman Madhat Yusef was killed by Palestinians at the site after the Israeli withdrawal.

Part of the large olive grove burned by Palestinians yesterday near Kedumim. The fire spread into the nearby forest.

Members of the Jewish community of Kedumin reported yesterday that Palestinians set fire to 120 community olive trees in nearby Park Bar-On–and despite the fact that the community members showed a video to police of the perpetrators committing the arson, no police action was taken. Later, in a deplorable but understandable retaliation, around 150 fig and olive trees were uprooted from the nearby fields of farmers from the Palestinian village of Kusra (according to the farmers).

Finally, the situation with the integrity of Jewish communities has reached the boiling point. Yesterday saw a disturbance at the fledgling community of Givat Gal, near Shiloh–just south of Shechem (Nablus). Thinking that the IDF was coming to dismantle Givat Gal, community members blocked the road to the community with stones and clashed briefly with the IDF to prevent it from entering.

There was a major development yesterday at Migron, another Jewish community that has been ordered dismantled because of supposed Palestinian land ownership.  It was announced on Channel 10 Israel news last night that the primary Palestinian landowner has now sold his land to the Migron community. Where this leaves Migron is anyone’s guess. More uncertainty swirls around other Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

To conclude, the situation on the ground in Judea and Samaria is becoming more dangerous by the day as the government does little to enforce the safety and security of those who live there.
