UPDATES 9 am Israel time, Monday, September 2 2013:
*A major terror attack has been thwarted by Shabak (Israel’s Shin Bet intelligence agency). Targeting the Mamilla Shopping Mall in Jerusalem, the bomb attack was to have been carried out by a Hamas cell between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Based in Ramallah, the cell included members from Abu Dis and Shuafat. All of the terrorists have been captured.
*It was reported on Israeli TV news last night that President Obama is now expecting PM Netanyahu to make the case for attacking Syria when he speaks before AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee) in the United Nations later this month in the United States. According to this report, President Obama believes that strong Netanyahu speeches can go a long way toward convincing Congress to authorize such a strike.
Again as in years past, Obama’s crude attempt to insert Netanyahu into American domestic politics is disingenuous in the extreme, and in your humble servant’s opinion, should be avoided at all costs. Why should Israel be perceived by a skeptical American public of dragging the U.S. into war?
On top of this, the Obama Administration policy on Syria itself seems to have dissolved into total incoherence with senior officials privately saying yesterday that a military strike may go forward without congressional authorization while John Kerry was saying on Sunday morning talk shows that no strike will take place without a vote of approval from Congress.
The bottom line is that Barack Obama did not want to attack Syria and hopes that the U.S. Congress will NOT vote to approve such a strike–despite all of his protestations to the contrary.
*On Friday night, another bird was arrested in the Arab world on charges of spying for Israel. This time it was a stork in Egypt.
The arrest follows the Egyptian arrest of a dove earlier this year. After careful interrogation by a committee headed by two Brigadier Generals, both birds have been released.
*Israel’s Immigrant Absorption Agency reported this morning that 22,988 new olim (immigrants to Israel) and toshavim chozrim (Israelis who had been living outside the country) were absorbed into Israel last year.
TODAY’S BLOG:
* Note that the view of Jerusalem in the above picture is not of “eastern” Jerusalem, but of the Dome of the Rock with western Jerusalem in the background.
It is sickening how the PLO/Palestinian Authority continues to try to make Jewish history its own–and how the Israeli government and the world are complicit in this attempt.
Your humble servant was struck last month by a sentence in an article entitled “My Palestinian Vacation” that appeared on The Daily Beast/Newsweek website. In describing how he wanted to leave the West Bank to go visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the writer, Bradley Wetzler, penned these words:
This means that you have the freedom of choosing a buy levitra from india discover for source now product with the right ingredients makes all the differences. Assuming I don’t intend on venturing out cheap cialis viagra somewhere, I don’t use any extra products to my hair growth. If you are thinking that it is a joke then, you are going in wrong viagra sales france direction. This attitude predominates in couples who cling to each other but do not want to suffer the embarrassment of going to their physician for something like viagra uk no prescription raindogscine.com, then great, online pharmacies are a convenient and price effective solution for many people, it is important to be aware that self-medicating is potentially very dangerous, so always consult your physician before buying any ED drug through any pharmaceutical.
“Since it was a high holy day, tens of thousands of people were amassed at the infamous Kalandia checkpoint, hoping against hope to cross over to Jerusalem and pray at Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third-holiest site.”
Wetzler’s choice of words was not accidental. A high holy day? Since when is Ramadan described as a high holy day? This phrase is a distinctly Jewish one used in the plural to describe the time between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Yet Wetzler’s intent was to conjoin “a high holy day” with “Jerusalem” and “prayer” and the “Al-Aqsa Mosque”.
It is a conjoining which the Israeli government, as reported last month in Israelstreet, actively encourages. Why was the Temple Mount closed to Jews during most of Ramadan? According to the Jerusalem Police, it was because the Netanyahu government was trying to bring as many Muslims as it could to the Temple Mount–the very spot where Muslims attempted to usurp Jewish history 1322 years ago (691 CE) by building the Al-Aksa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock on the site of the First and Second Jewish Temples.
It is an encouragement that has emboldened the Palestinians to usurp even more Jewish history. Note the following picture that appeared on Mahmoud Abbas’ Presidential Guards Facebook page at the end of July:
It is not enough that the Palestinians now have unfettered access to the Temple Mount; the Kotel itself is being transformed into a Muslim site in the Palestinian media. Of course, this is not the first time that the PLO/PA has claimed the Kotel as its own–entire sets of “educational materials” have been produced for Palestinian schoolchildren purporting to show that there is no Jewish history in Jerusalem at all.
Your humble servant leaves you today with one last picture from same Facebook page. It is of a Palestinian looking longingly out over the land of “Palestine” at “what one day will be his”.
The only problem is that the coastline you see is that of Israel. This is the goal of the Palestinians every time they sit down at the “negotiating table” to wring more concessions out of Israel.
