HAPPY CHANUKAH!!
UPDATES 9 am Israel time, Tuesday, December 3 2013:
**PM Netanyahu is in Rome today meeting with the Pope and telling everyone who will listen (and that means very few people) that the Iranian sanctions are “unraveling.”
As your humble servant wrote yesterday, the sanctions are more than unraveling, they are history. Just yesterday, the Iranian delegation visiting Kuwait revealed that there is now a plan in place for President Obama to visit Tehran next summer (even though Obama’s tweeting lovemate Hassan Rouhani has yet to extend an official invitation).
The point is that the Iranians are now using Obama as a means to gain international respect: “If Obama is coming to Iran . . . what about you?”
**Two astonishing pieces of news from the IDF on the Gaza Border yesterday. First, it was revealed that Israel Defense Minister Ya’alon has caved in to the IDF head of COGAT and ordered that construction materials once again be transported from Israel in to Gaza.
This decision is simply irrational. We just found out several weeks ago that virtually all of the tons and tons of construction materials that Hamas is using to build tunnels into Israeli communities in southern Israel are construction materials produced in Israel and transported into Gaza by COGAT. Lt. Ahiya Klein, mentioned in yesterday’s blog, was in one of those tunnels when it blew up.
And now, our Defense Minister is permitting construction materials to flow into Gaza again? According to COGAT and Ya’alon, the lack of construction materials may cause thousands of Gazan workers to lose their jobs and thereby the security situation could be worsened.
What about our security situation here in southern Israel? Just unbelievable.
The second piece of chilling news from yesterday is that the Gaza Division Commander, Gen, Mickey Edelstein revealed in a private conversation that the IDF is now informing Hamas, in advance, of all of its movements on the Gaza Border.
Say what? Yes, the IDF has begun informing Hamas every day of exactly where IDF soldiers will be along the border and what they will be doing.

Again, this is simply irrational and needs no further comment from your humble servant.
From PM Benjamin Netanyahu to Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon to IDF Head Benny Gantz to Gaza Commander Mickey Edelstein and COGAT Commander Eitan Dangot (soon to be replaced by Yoav Mordechai), Israel has an inept and politically correct chain of command that is again setting up southern Israelis and IDF soldiers along the border for disaster.
TODAY’S BLOG:
If we have heard it once, we have heard it a million times: “The poor indigenous Palestinians want nothing more than to be left alone on their beloved land to tend their sheep and harvest their olives.”
In its latest incarnation, this nauseating nonsense is now being extended by the Palestinians to the Israeli Beduins in the Negev region. Of course, the Beduins aren’t interested in olives, but it’s still the same old claptrap about their “beloved land”.
The fact is that wherever the Beduins live these days, the land they profess to love is completely denuded because of the overgrazing of their sheep–so much so, in fact, that the Beduins must rely on farmers to supply them with hay to feed their sheep.
One of the only groups working to save the land of the Negev from erosion, depletion, and desertification is the KKL (Keren Kayemet) which has planted millions of trees in the region (in fact, the KKL has planted more than 230,000,000–yes, that’s right–two hundred and thirty million trees throughout the country).
Why does your humble servant mention all of this today?
On Sunday, Canadian PM Stephen Harper was honored at the annual KKL–JNF (Jewish National Fund) dinner in Toronto. Outside were about 150 pro-Palestinian protesters–protesting (they claimed) on behalf of the Beduins in the Negev.
And why were they protesting against the KKL? In the words of one protester: “In light of the fact that KKL is active in the Negev, we see JNF’s trees as soldiers in the Zionist army of occupation.”
“Soldiers in the Zionist army of occupation”: truly we live in a world gone crazy.
