19 Days Until The Election
By the numbers:
$1,000,000,000,000 dollars: the amount of money, at the minimum, that Iran has smuggled in to defeat the economic sanctions placed on it–according to a report by Reuters. Where is the money mainly being smuggled in from? Dubai and Turkey.
53: the number of IDF soldiers who received commendations in a ceremony yesterday for heroic actions during last summer’s war with Hamas. 2 soldiers received awards posthumously.
28: Celsius (82.4 F) . . . the predicted high temperature at the Dead Sea and in Eilat today–the warmest places in Israel.
20: the percentage of Israeli voters that all polls are showing is undecided. Three polls were released yesterday: two showed Likud and Herzog/Livni tied, the other showed Herzog/Livni ahead by 2.
3.96: the number of shekels that equal $1 this morning. The shekel has been on quite a ride this past month from a high of over 4 per dollar to a low of about 3.85.
Other updates:
**An Obama apologist to the core and a stalwart supporter of J Street, Isaac Herzog proudly announced yesterday that he was declining AIPAC’s invitation to speak next week at their convention. Herzog’s decision comes as no surprise despite the fact that a number of politicians urged him to go to Washington to show unity against the Iranian threat.
Beit Yehudi Chairman Naftali Bennett indicated he would accompany Netanyahu to Washington.
**Agence France Presse (AFP), normally a reputable media outlet, reported yesterday Israel had flooded Gaza by opening dams along the Gaza border. Of course, AFP was merely mouthing what they were told by the Hamas “Disinformation” Ministry in Gaza.
What is the only problem with the AFP report? There are no Israeli dams on the Gaza border or anywhere else in the South for that matter.
Oh, and there was one other little bit of AFP misreportage. When interviewing a Gazan about the flooding, he said “The Jews want to destroy us.” In its captioning of the conversation, AFP changed “Jews” to “Israel.”
It is important to note, as israelstreet always does, that Palestinians never refer to “Israelis”; they always refer to “the Jews”. But that anti-Semitism is unpalatable to Western media outlets that wish to portray Palestinians in a kinder light so “Jews” is always translated as “Israelis”, and “the Jews” is always translated as “Israel”.

**Reuvin Rivlin is turning out to be an intense disappointment as President of Israel. Yesterday it was announced that he would be holding a joint press conference with ultra-left wing Israeli singer and draft dodger Aviv Geffen in order to tout some cause.
Several nights ago, Geffen appeared in concert on stage in Tel Aviv. In the middle of his concert, he put giant pictures of Netanyahu, Bennett, and other politicians from the Israeli “Right” up on a screen with a large red X crossing them all out. Then, to the cheers of the crowd, he screamed “Send Bibi to hell”!
Can you imagine what the reaction would have been if a singer on the Right had said that about Herzog or Livni?
And why is our President, Reuven Rivlin, supporting such hatred and incitement?
Picture of the Day:
Did you know that there are more women in Israel who are F 16 fighter pilots than women in Saudi Arabia who can drive a car?
TODAY’S BLOG:
Could John Kerry have been more demeaning yesterday to our Prime Minister?
Testifying before a congressional hearing on the budget of his State Department, a budget that is actively funding the One Voice Movement’s attempt to unseat Benjamin Netanyahu, Kerry said:
“Anybody [read Netanyahu] running around right now jumping in to say ‘Well we don’t like the deal,’ or this or that, doesn’t know what the deal is.”
To paraphrase using a popular expression, Kerry would have us believe that Netanyahu is “running around like a chicken with his head cut off.” If this characterization rings a bell with you, dear reader, it should. How long ago was it that Obama minions were calling Netanyahu a “chickensh*t”.
And however much Kerry dissembles, we all know, more or less what the deal is.
It is a deal that will leave the Iranian nuclear program largely intact and ready to restart at a moment’s notice. In fact, we all know that the Iranian nuclear weapons program will never stop no matter who signs what.
But there is a bigger issue here.
Because Israel is the one country that Iran constantly threatens with annihilation, it is the one country which should be intimately involved in the nuclear negotiations. But as Obama and Kerry are fond of telling the world, Israel has instead been locked out.
What does that fact say about Barack Obama and John Kerry? As PM Netanyahu says, it means that they have something to hide and cannot be believed.
Your humble servant doesn’t think that any of us would buy a used car from either of them.
