**Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics published its annual pre-Independence Day population numbers today:

–The total population of Israel is 8.345 million citizens (a 2% increase of 162,000 from last year).

–There are 6.251 million Israeli-Jewish citizens which represent 74.9% of the population.

–There are 1.730 million Israeli-Arab citizens which represent 20.7% of the population. This percentage has not risen during the last year.

–There are 364,000 non-Arab Christians and those of no religious affiliation which represent 4.4% of the population.

During the last year, 176,000 babies were born; 32,000 new immigrants came to Israel; and 44,000 people died.

The five top cities in terms of population are (in order): Jerusalem, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Haifa, Rishon LeZion, and Ashdod.

** “Great” quotation of the day– Syrian President Bashar Assad speaking to France 2 television:

“There are no Iranian troops in Syria, and they have never sent any soldiers.”

It was only a month ago that we had Iranian Revolutionary Guards taking selfies of themselves on the Syrian-Israeli border. And how about that Iranian general who was killed when Israel struck the convoy of Hezbollah terrorist Jihad Mughniyeh just outside of Quneitra.

Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s somber Memorial Day, begins in four hours.

From sundown today to sundown tomorrow, Israel will remember 23,320 Israeli soldiers and civilians who have been killed in wars or by terrorists.

At 8 pm, all of Israel will come to a halt as sirens wail across the country. National ceremonies will be held at the Kotel (Western Wall) and in the square in front of the Knesset. During the next 24 hours, 1.5 million Israelis are expected to visit one of the military cemeteries in the country.

Nevertheless, the “Left” has been quick to castigate the Netanyahus for engaging in a “public relations stunt” by allowing their photograph to be taken.

Your humble servant urges you to stand up after reading this blog and remain silent for one minute in honor of those who have died defending Israel–and those who were killed by terrorists seeking to destroy Israel.
