**We had just gone to bed here in far south Ashdod last night when the incoming missile warning app went off on our phones. Almost immediately, at 10:04 pm, we heard two loud, distinct, missile impact explosions just to the south of us in the Chof Ashkelon region. Three minutes later, at 10:07 pm, our apps went off again. This time we heard “only” one explosion.
Are you keeping track of all the terrorist Palestinian missile strikes on the right hand side of this page? Here in southern Israel, we have now had 8,202 missiles explode around us since January 20, 2012. To put this another way, an average of 6.58 missiles have exploded here per day during this time.
Where is the world outcry? Where is the E.U.? Where is the Obama White House? Where is the pathetic United Nations Human Rights Council?
By the way, what was the IDF response to last night’s missile fire? The IDF spokesman says that a “missile launch site” was hit in northern Gaza by IAF planes. This is IDF code for “an empty field” was bombed.
Your humble servant is no big fan on Avigdor Lieberman, but he hit the nail on the head with this comment today:
“We cannot accept this situation. No government has a right to exist if it is willing to accept a situation in which less than a year after a military operation that cost us dearly in soldiers’ lives and disruption of national life for two months, a situation is returning where residents of the south must again run to shelters. This situation is intolerable, unacceptable, and we must put an end to it.”
**It is now six days until the supposed “deadline” for “negotiations” on the Iranian nuclear weapons are supposed to conclude. The Iranians have once again dug in their heels and are announcing that they will never accept international inspection of their military sites.
But do you think that this “little bump” in the road will stop the Obama express? Of course not. It now turns out that the U.S. and Iran are more intimately involved than ever–even to the point of sharing the Taqqadum military base in Iraq’s Anbar Province. When the White House declared two days ago that it was sending 450 more American soldiers to Iraq, it was sending them to Taqqadum.
This American-Iranian cooperation is actually nothing new. The U.S. Air Force has been flying missions in close support of Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias for months. What does all of this mean for the nuclear weapons “negotiations”? Your humble servant leaves it to you, dear reader, to draw your own conclusion.
TODAY’S BLOG:
A fascinating story appeared on the back pages of the Israeli news the other day.
Israel’s so-called Minister of “Defense”, Moshe Ya’alon, has just given his approval for the continued renovation of a “compound” strategically located along Route 60 between Hebron and Gush Etzion. The approval was blasted by “leftist” NGOs in Israel for reasons that will slowly become apparent below.
For starters, as you can tell from the word “renovation” and the picture above, the “compound” is not new. But as you cannot tell from the picture, the compound is quite large, consisting of 8 buildings spread over about 10 acres (38 dunams).
The story of the compound actually begins back in 1947 when an American Presbyterian missionary from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania named Thomas Lambie came to the “Holy Land”– after serving in Ethiopia in the 1920s and 30s, and establishing a hospital for lepers there.
With the help of his Pennsylvania Presbyterian Church (operating under the name of “The Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions”), he decided to build a church/hospital that specialized in the treatment of tuberculosis patients. The compound that resulted was named the Berachah Tuberculosis Sanitarium.
When Lambie died in 1954, ownership of the compound remained with Presbyterian group, but eventually the Sanitarium fell into disuse until in the late 1980s and early 1990s the Presbyterians converted it into a travelers’ hostel.
But this venture also quickly went under, and finally in 2008 the Presbyterians sold the entire compound to a church named “Scandinavian Seamen Holy Land Enterprises” based in Sweden but operated by a Norwegian Christian woman.
At this point, we should stop for a moment because it is here that “leftist” organizations say that a “trail of fraud” began. The lefties would like to claim that “the Scandinavian Seaman Holy Land Enterprises” was not a church and that the Norwegian woman did not really exist.
But anyone who knows the history of the Scandinavian Seamen’s Church knows that the church is no fraud, and that the nonexistent woman is Gro Wenske.
And Gro Wenske is not just any “Christian woman from Norway.”
She is the daughter of Per-Faye Hansen, a Norwegian pastor who saved thousands of Jews in Norway during the Holocaust by helping them escape to Sweden.

After World War II, Hansen founded the Scandinavian Seamen’s Church in Haifa, and in 1969 he built another church here in Ashdod (which your humble servant visited yesterday).
Hansen died in 1992, but in 2007, he received the “Righteous Among Nations” award at Yad Vashem for his efforts during World War II.
But back to the story of the compound.
In 2012, Wenske, who does everything within her power to support Jews and Israel, turned over ownership of the compound to a non-profit organization owned by Irving Moskowitz–an American billionaire who funds Jewish land purchases throughout Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria. It is Moskowitz who has helped fund the Ir David site which now occupies such a prominent place in Jerusalem. It has been Moskowitz’s team that has been renovating the compound since 2012.
We all, fortunately, can deduce what Moskowitz plans to do with the compound.
And that is why all the lefties are now hurling accusations. The Presbyterians are claiming that they were deceived when they sold the property. The Palestinians are claiming that their land has been confiscated. And, and, and . . .
But the thought that your humble servant wants to leave with you today is the amazing way that the Hansen family has lived their lives saving and supporting Jews at every turn. The legacy that Per-Faye passed on to his daughter should always be remembered. And his daughter, Gro Wenske, is a national treasure of this country.
She has made her home in Haifa, heads the “Foundation for the Bible and Israel”, and publishes the magazine “Voice of Israel.”
