4:15 UPDATES

4:15 pm: The woman who was stabbed 10 minutes ago has been rushed to Sha’are Tzedik Health Clinic with the knife still in her back. She is reported as “conscious and stable.” The Palestinian terrorist was captured.

4:06 pm: There has been a Palestinian stabbing attack outside a Rami Levy Supermarket near the Gush Etzion Junction. Early reports are that 3 Israelis were wounded–one woman is in “serious” condition with stab wounds in her back. No news as yet about the terrorist.

3:29 pm: There has been another Palestinian stabbing attack targeting IDF soldiers at Tel Rumeida in Hebron. Soldiers unwounded; terrorist shot and killed.

3:03 pm: Six Israeli-Arabs from Tira in the Galilee have been arrested for throwing Molotov firebombs on Israeli motorists on Highway 6.

9:00 am UPDATES

***Palestinian terror attacks yesterday:

There were five stabbings or attempted stabbings. From most recent:

At 10:30 pm last night, a Palestinian terrorist attempted to stab soldiers at the entrance to Tel Rumeida in Hebron. He was shot dead.

At 6:23 pm, two Palestinian terrorists attacked soldiers at a checkpoint in Hebron. One soldier was moderately wounded with stab wounds to the face. Both terrorists were shot and killed.

At 12:55 pm, two Palestinian terrorists armed with an axe and box cutters were captured an IDF Square in Jerusalem just prior to an attack.

At 10:52 am, a Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was captured in the Old City of Jerusalem on his way to an attack.

At 10:35 am, two Palestinian terrorists armed with knives were captured at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.

There were numerous Palestinian riots throughout Judea and Samaria in which Israeli security personnel were assaulted with “rocks” and Molotovs in such places as Tulkarm, Beit Anun, and Beit El. These riots were “small-scale” involving about 100 people each. By far, the largest riot–involving thousands of Palestinians–occurred in Hebron.

More than this, Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” at Israeli motorists at the Hawara Junction, at a bus at Mt. Hebron, at the Safam intersection near Hebron, at the Jerusalem Light Rail train at Shuafat, and at numerous other places.

All told, there were more than 40 Palestinian terror attacks yesterday.

***From the Crimea to the South China Sea, the Obama Administration has never established a red line that it didn’t cross . . .

But never more so than when it comes to Iran and Syria. Remember all the red lines that any final Iranian nuclear appeasement agreement had to include such as restrictions on ballistic missiles, the stopping of  nuclear enrichment, the revelation of past military weapons “research”, and so on, ad nauseum? None of these red lines was adhered to.

And, of course, everyone is aware of how Obama has crossed every red line he ever set in regard to Syrian use of chemical weapons.

So it comes as no surprise today to discover that a new red line has been crossed. Yesterday, the State Department announced that the U.S. will now welcome Iranian involvement in solving the situation in Syria. The U.S. had previously rejected such Iranian participation because of Iranian support for Bashar Assad.

This latest decision is just one more piece of President Obama’s grand plan to firmly establish Iran as a regional and world power.

***Let’s backtrack on that support for Israel, shall we?

Just a few days ago, israelstreet trumpeted its praise for the moral fiber of the British artists who declared that they did not support a cultural boycott of Israel. In particular, we mentioned J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame. This morning, Rowling has issued a statement saying that while she does not support a boycott against Israel, she “deplores” Israeli policies, especially those of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Just yesterday, the retail giant Walmart surprised us all by trumpeting its new line of Halloween costumes which included IDF soldier outfits, complete with an Israeli flag. These were to be sold beside other uniforms such as U.S. Army and Boy Scout uniforms. But before we could put in a good word about Walmart, the company has announced this morning that it is withdrawing the costumes because of criticism that it has received about the “Israeli occupation.”

TODAY’S BLOG:

Some devastating statistics were published yesterday concerning the Reform Jewish movement in the United States.

*50% of all married Reform Jews have non-Jewish spouses.

*80% of all Reform Jews who married between 2000 and 2013 married non-Jewish spouses.

*With a Reform Jewish birthrate of 1.7 children per Jewish Reform woman (compared to 4.1 for orthodox women), the number of Reform Jewish children in declining.

*Only 4% of Reform Jews attend a synagogue religious service once a week.

Permit your humble servant to state the obvious: there will soon be no Reform Judaism which has Judaism as its basis. Whatever of the movement survives a generation from now will be an amalgamation of Christians, Jews, and other faiths.

In fact, the Reform movement away from Judaism is already well underway. An official task force of Reform rabbis recommended back in 2010 that ritual services in Reform synagogues include non-Jewish elements in order to attract non-Jewish family members. The new word in Reform Judaism is “inclusiveness.” Anyone and everyone needs to be included no matter what their theological bent.

In essence, Reform Judaism is well on its way to becoming Reconstructionist, a so-called “Jewish denomination” which actually has little resemblance to traditional Judaism. Interestingly, at the same time, Reconstructionist Judaism is well on its way to becoming nothing more than a hodgepodge of nothingness.

Your humble servant mentions all of this because Jews in Israel, almost none of whom are “Reform”, are easily annoyed when their “Reform Jewish brothers and sisters” in the United States and Israel demand more authority in Israeli religious affairs. Their perspective–a perspective confirmed throughout centuries of Jewish experience–is simply that if Reform Jews are legitimized here in Israel to perform marriages, etc., a slippery slide to “no Judaism” will begin.

But more than this, you can forgive Israelis for being deeply suspicious of Reform Jews. Every Reform rabbi they see is usually at Bilin throwing “rocks” at IDF soldiers, or out in an olive orchard in Judea and Samaria provoking Jewish community members, or attending a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Tel Aviv.

An incident that happened this week underscores the enmity that Jewish community members feel for Reform rabbis. Arik Asherman, an Israeli resident who is president of “Rabbis for Human Rights” was out in an olive orchard near Itamar (the place where the Fogel family was gruesomely murdered in 2011) helping Palestinians pick olives. In the process of doing so, he was accosted by masked community members who threatened him and apparently caused him to fall down and injure himself.

In a subsequent interview, Asherman discussed his actions with a journalist:

Journalist: “The Reform denomination is a red flag to many settlers. Many of them look at you as a provocateur who helps the Palestinian enemy [and they see] Palestinian attacks carried out throughout the country everyday.”

Asherman:  “I’m not naive. Dozens of times Palestinians consider burning their [Jewish community] olive trees and destroying their homes, and their children are saying they want to be terrorists. However, our credo is actually to help and protect the Palestinians believing that this helps preserve security and prevent [Palestinian] attacks. In view of [Jewish] offenses [against Palestinians] and non-concern for their rights , the Palestinian street says that making peace with us is impossible. I really think that ultimately, beyond that, peacemaking is not only morally right, but is also a security interest for Israelis.”

What a load of horse manure.

Non-concern for Palestinian rights? What about the fact that the Israel Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the home of terrorist murderer (the Israeli-Arab who worked for Bezeq that rammed his car into people at a bus stop and began chopping them to death with a meat cleaver) cannot be demolished? What about the fact that the Israeli Attorney General ruled yesterday that soldiers cannot kill a terrorist who has been neutralized–even if they fear that he still capable of attacking or detonating himself. What about . . . what about . . .?

Asherman is completely naive. The very people whose olive groves he was tending the other day belong to a community whose people have carried out some of the worst terror attacks against Israelis. That he thinks that he is somehow preserving Israeli security and preventing attacks is utterly absurd.

It is completely indicative, however, of the mindset of many Reform Jews who think “we must have peace with our enemies” at any cost.

At least Asherman is here in Israel saying this; Reform Jews in the United States have no right to try to ram “peace” down the throats of Israelis.

In any case, in 20 years, Israel may not have Reform Jews to think about any more.
