***In a moment of supreme irony (given the news described in Today’s Blog), the U.S. expressed its “concern” to Israel today over Israel’s proposed NGO funding bill.
In yet another breathtaking meddling into Israeli society, U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro told Israel Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked that the bill could inhibit “a free and functioning civil society in Israel.”
Lest we forget, all that this proposed law would do would be to force Israeli NGOs that receive half or more of their funding from foreign sources to reveal those sources. It would also force representatives from these NGOs to wear name tags when they lobby in the Knesset–just as regular lobbyists already do.
And this will inhibit a free and functioning civil society?
What hokum.
All the law will do is make NGOs transparent by letting everyone know who is funding whom.

Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu commented today that Turkey and Israel are nowhere close to normalizing relations.
The reason? According to Cavusoglu, Israel has yet to agree to Turkish demands for compensation to the families of the IHH terrorists that were killed on the Mavi Marmara after they attacked Israeli soldiers.
As we have often noted on this blog, Turkey should be paying Israel compensation, not vice versa.

Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics has released information again showing how the birthrate among Israeli Jewish and Israeli Arab women has now virtually evened out. And given the fact that there are millions of more Jewish women in the country than Arab women, we can expect the Jewish population to increase its wide gap over the Arab population.

The fallout from the Israeli television program “Uvda” (“Fact”) continued today in Israel with an as yet unnamed left-wing political “activist” being arrested at Ben Gurion Airport as he tried to leave Israel.
The program has stunned Israel.
In that program, two young right-wing activists posed as left-wing activists and infiltrated two left-wing “human rights” NGO’s, Ta’ayush and B’Tselem. One undercover man became a confidante of Ta’ayush leader Ezra Nawi and traveled with him throughout Judea and Samaria, secretly filming him all along the way.
In the remarkable series of undercover videos that resulted, Nawi was filmed entrapping Arabs and then turning them into the PLO “police” with the help of a leader of B’Tselem who is related to a person in the PLO “police.”
Nawi turned the Arabs in because they were selling or trying to sell land in Judea and Samaria to Jews.
In the videos, Nawi clearly states that he expects the Arabs that he turns in will be tortured and killed–and proudly notes that at least 4 people he had turned in previously had, in fact, been tortured and killed.
What was astonishing was to see a self-proclaimed “human rights” leader talking so casually about causing the torture and murder of people that he turned in.
By the way, other information that emerged from the videos were items that we already knew–such as how left-wing organizations, particularly B’Tselem, stage “incidents” for the press. In fact, within the organization, B’Tselem calls such events “theater.”
What has also been astonishing has been the effort by Israeli leftists to dismiss what Nawi did. One such person, Gideon Levy of the Haaretz newspaper actually appeared on television–and condemned Nawi . . . for having a big mouth.
Unbelievable.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
