–>Palestinian terror continued apace yesterday . . .
At 7:10 pm, 2 Palestinians from Hevron were captured in Beersheva wearing Jewish kipas and religious paraphernalia. They were arrested when they aroused the suspicion of security guards at the Beersheva Central Bus Station.
At 5:22 pm, undercover IDF soldiers on Road 443 near Beit Sira captured four terrorists as they began to throw Molotov firebombs at Israeli motorists.
Palestinians also attacked IDF troops with firebombs at Joseph’s Tomb and Tekoa, and at civilians in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem.
“Rock throwing” occurred throughout Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem.
–>The Syrian rebels hit close to home . . .
It was reported yesterday that a secret unit assassinated the head of Asma Assad’s personal bodyguards.
Asma, as you may not know, is Bashar Assad’s wife.
–>Globetrotting reaches ludicrous levels . . .
How many times has John Kerry come to Israel during his tenure?
We don’t know, but we do know that in pursuit of a Nobel Peace Prize, the American Secretary of State has traveled 1.7 million km–including visits to 81 countries.
You may think that is a lot, but Hilary Clinton traveled to 112 nations.
Just look at all that Kerry and Clinton have accomplished. The Middle East has fallen apart on their watches.
–>Israel start-ups raise a startling amount of capital in the first quarter . . .
During the first quarter this year, Israeli startups raised $1.02 billion dollars. This means that the new companies are on the same astonishing pace as last year when $4 billion dollars were raised in 4 quarters.
–>If you can believe this . . .
The Israel Electric Company signed an agreement with British Petroleum last month to import natural gas from the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago.
Yes, you read that correctly.
What is remarkable is that the cost of the gas ($4.9 per unit of heat) is less than the cost of Israeli natural gas from the offshore Tamar site ($5.7 per unit).
TODAY’S BLOG:
Your humble servant has always had the utmost respect for Michael Oren. As Ambassador to the United States, Oren performed admirably–even brilliantly–under extremely trying circumstances. As you may not know, Oren is now a Knesset legislator as a member of the centrist Kulanu party.
Yesterday, Oren came out with a new peace plan which left many Israelis shaking their heads. It was notable for its bizarre focus on trying to get international entities to like us, and its lack of historical perspective.
Oren bases his plan on the premise that the current government is doing nothing but stagnating in place without any political initiative. Of course, this premise is deeply flawed from the get go. The last Netanyahu government offered concession after concession to the PLO to try to get them to just come to the table. Now the government has had to fight off a wave of Palestinian terrorism reminiscent of earlier intifadas.
To offer the Palestinians more concessions now would be idiotic. Such concessions would be little more than a reward for Palestinian terrorism.
But back to Oren’s plan:
1. Oren calls for a “settlement freeze outside of major community blocks in Judea and Samaria.” Isn’t that exactly what Israel did back in 2009-10? And what happened then? Did the Palestinians respond? Of course not.
2. Oren calls for strengthening the Palestinian economy by letting more Palestinians work in Israel. Aside from the fact, that some 100,000 Palestinians already work legally and illegally in Israel, one wonders why it is Israel’s responsibility to make the Palestinian economy run. If the Palestinians would spent a tenth of the money they get from outside sources to improve their economy instead of spending it on supporting terrorism, they might actually see economic improvement. And not to mention, why should Israelis put their lives at risk to improve the Palestinian economy?
That’s it.
That’s the whole plan. Oren says that if these two steps are taken, the plan “alongside concrete steps on the ground, will take some of the air out of BDS . . . We can lay the groundwork, which, in the end, will turn into a permanent agreement. That way, we can prove to the world that we’re serious, and that we are turning towards peace.”
Take some of the air out of BDS?
We can prove to the world?
What a joke. Oren doesn’t understand that BDS is out to destroy Israel, not improve life for the Palestinians. And surprisingly, almost shockingly, he doesn’t understand that there is nothing that Israel can do that will prove anything to the world.
And why is it our responsibility to prove anything anyway?
