SPECIAL NOTICE:

Your humble servant returned to the United States last night. This means that israelstreet will be published everyday at around 6 pm Israel time instead of 9 am. We will return to Israel-time morning posts when we return to Israel in late June.

UPDATES 4 pm Israel time:

–>Palestinian terror thus far today.

The two most egregious attacks have been:

At 8:23 am, Palestinian terrorists detonated an IED in an attempt to blow up an IDF bulldozer operating along the Gaza border.

At 1:04 pm, a Palestinian terrorist from Hevron with a machete was captured at the Damascus Gate in the Old City.

In addition, Palestinian terrorists with “rocks” assaulted a police car near Arraba and Israeli motorists at Ofer and Shiloh.

Another Palestinian terrorist was indicted for planning a shooting attack against IDF soldiers in the Malha Mall in Jerusalem.

–>The IDF attempts to shorten its response time.

In a positive move, the IDF has been installing markers throughout Judea and Samaria this week.

Markers like this one might help IDF troops get to the scene of an attack more quickly.

Markers like this one might help IDF troops get to the scene of an attack more quickly.

The purpose of each marker is to give Israelis who are under attack a specific point of reference as to where they are. For example, instead of calling in an attack that is taking place “north of” Tekoa, the Israeli caller might refer to Position 43.

–>The Gaza concrete fiasco.

Several days ago, the head of Israel’s infamous COGAT unit announced that shipments of concrete to Gaza were being halted. It turns out that the the COGAT announcement was a grossly disingenuous piece of information.

Why? Because the only concrete shipments being halted are ones that were being made to “private entities” in Gaza–ones specifically under the thumb of the so-called Hamas “Economy Minister.”  That minister was using the concrete to build tunnels and headquarters for the terror organization.

What a surprise.

A few interesting questions might be:

Why in the world was Israel delivering concrete to “private” Hamas men in Gaza?

What does the IDF really think is happening to all of the “public concrete” being delivered? Does it somehow think that this is not going to Hamas also?

Unbelievable.

–>American presidential candidate Bernie Sanders “clarified” his remarks.

In an astonishing interview last week in the New York Daily News, Sanders claimed that Israeli forces killed more than 10,000 Palestinian civilians in the 2014 Gaza War. As all readers of israelstreet know, it was an outrageously fraudulent statement.

Yesterday, Sanders sought to clarify what he said.

However, his “clarification” was almost as astonishing as his original statement. In noting that he had not really “distorted reality”, Sanders said that Israelis have a right to live in freedom and peace.

Thank you Bernie Sanders. For nothing.

Unbelievable.

–>Is the Herzog-Livni party about to join the government coalition?

We certainly hope not. We can think of few things more disastrous to the country than to have Itzhak Herzog and Tzipi Livni back at the seat of power. Can you imagine Herzog as Foreign Minister and Livni back in place as Justice Minister and Head of negotiations with the Palestinians?

What a calamity that would be.

Nevertheless, talks between the two groups apparently reached a critical phase two weeks ago–only to be put on hold by the announcement that Herzog is being preliminarily investigated for campaign fraud.

Apparently the major sticking point has been the Herzog-Livni demand to throw the Jewish Home Party of Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked out of the government.

Why would Netanyahu even contemplate getting rid of his most stable coalition partner in favor of two self-consumed narcissists who helped bring down the last Netanyahu coalition?

Unbelievable.

–>Is Israel about to cave-in to Turkey?

It appears so. The Turkish embassy in London says that intense talks are now underway in London to iron out the final details of an agreement.

What will Netanyahu give away this time? Erdogan has said repeatedly that there will be no rapprochement unless Israel ends its blockade of Gaza and adequately compensates Turkish families for the lost of their terrorist relatives on the terrorist ship Marmara.

That Israeli taxpayer money would be used to pay off terrorists is unbelievable.

As we have noted in previous blogs, why isn’t Israel demanding that Turkey compensate the families of the Israeli soldiers who were wounded in the attack?

TODAY’S BLOG:

Can someone please explain to your humble servant what is going on with the IDF general command?

Sketchy reports a month ago revealed that the IDF has hatched a plan to halt all IDF operations in Ramallah and Jericho. It should be noted that both of these Palestinian cities are in Area A, and as such, were idiotically withdrawn from after the signing of the Oslo Accords back in 1994.

However, the IDF returned to the cities in 2002 amidst Palestinian suicide bombings and other attacks, and has remained there ever since . . . to some degree. In fact, there are no military bases or outposts in the cities, but the IDF maintains the right to enter both locations to look for so-called “ticking time bombs”–meaning terrorists who are about to carry out an attack.

But more than this, the IDF presence serves to prop up Mahmoud Abbas. Without the IDF patrolling the areas at night and arresting Hamas terrorists, Abbas’s unelected term as Palestinian president would come to an immediate end.

But never mind.

It is now being reported that the IDF Central Command, the head of COGAT, and representatives of Shin Bet have been meeting for the last four weeks to flesh out the details of an agreement.

But guess what? Now the Palestinians want more.

They want the IDF out of all Palestinian cities, towns, and settlements, and have given Israel two weeks to respond to their demands.

Just think about that for a moment.

The Palestinians have given Israel an ultimatum.

And what is the Israel response? The Netanyahu Security Cabinet is scrambling to appease the Palestinians. In the midst of a huge surge of Palestinian violence, the government wants to decrease the Israeli military presence in some of the most violent areas of Judea and Samaria.

Just unbelievable.
