UPDATES 6 pm Israel time:

–>PM Netanyahu on Sunday (April 9th): ” . . . There has been a significant decline in the scope of terrorist attacks.”

What do Sharqiya, Silwad, Qalandiya, Pisgat Ze’ev, the Hebron Hills, Tira, Al-Arov, Jaba, Yabad, Al-Tahta, Shuafat, Ras al-Amud, Gush Etzion, Jit, Al-Khader, and tens of other locations in Israel have in common? They were all places at which Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli soldiers and civilians yesterday with “rocks” and Molotovs.

–>One of the “other locations” mentioned above was Awarta . . .

At Awarta, dozens of Palestinians waving Palestinian flags launched the usual bombardment of “rocks”, projectiles, and curses at soldiers who were manning a checkpoint there.

When they had finally had enough, the soldiers grabbed a small Palestinian flag and burned it.

Your humble servant says Bravo! to the soldiers.

But not the IDF–which is throwing its own soldiers under the bus yet again. Immediately, the IDF spokesman declared that the “serious incident” was under investigation and that the soldiers would face a disciplinary hearing.

That disciplinary hearing turned into a court martial and has already taken place (talk about railroading). The squad commander has been relieved of command and sentenced to 20 days in a military prison. Another soldier was ordered confined to base for one month.

Unbelievable.

–>Do you want to see something which apparently only happened once before (in 1948) in the last 2000 years?

Yesterday, a Jewish couple was married on the Temple Mount (click here to see).

Yes, you read that correctly. Despite all attempts of the Israeli government and their compatriots in the Islamic Wakf, the couple was able to accomplish the marriage quickly and under the radar of the security personnel around them.

Of course, this is being reported as a major “incident” by the Israeli leftist media today, and the Prime Minister’s office has warned that this could spark another round of violence on the Mount.

You can expect the newlyweds to be arrested by nightfall.

–>Great news about young people in Israel!

A poll commissioned by Israel Hayom to be published on Friday asked a number of questions to Israeli high school students in grades 11-12.

Patriotically speaking:

*85 percent of the students say that they “love Israel”, and 89 percent see their future here in Israel. 88 percent will enlist in the IDF. Why do they love Israel? Because of the wonderful “family atmosphere” and the way that Israelis “come together in times of trouble.”

Politically speaking:

*More than 60 percent of the respondents define themselves as on the “Right”; 23 percent consider themselves in the “Center”; and only 13 percent describe themselves as on the “Left.”

The families of this country are doing something right (no pun intended).

–>Weird weather continues.

Flooding has blocked a number of roads in southern Israel including Route 40 and Highway 234. Heavy rains and hail also hit the north. The following picture taken in Tiberias is of a squall over the Kineret (Sea of Galilee) today.

–>Moshe Ya’alon continues his assault on Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

In the middle of last night, forces from Ya’alon’s Civil Administration arrived at a home owned by Uri and Inbal Aloni in Beit El. They unceremoniously ordered the parents (Inbal is pregnant) and children family out of their home, and then destroyed it.

So why did they destroy the house leaving the Alonis homeless as Passover nears? Because, according to Ya’alon, the house was built without a proper permit.

–>Jordanian “creep” continues . . .

As Israel unbelievably continues to encourage Jordan to extend its influence in Israel in such places as the Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (it was announced yesterday that King Abdullah is personally funding restoration of Jesus’ Tomb in the Church), we also see Jordanian “creep” in employment.

Following the introduction of 1500 Jordanian workers into Eilat to work in the hotels there, Minister of the Interior Aryeh Deri and Minister of Tourism Yariv Levin announced that they want to expand Jordanian employment to Dead Sea hotels as well.

Your humble servant is holding his breath–waiting for the inevitable first terror attack perpetrated by Jordanians in a Dead Sea or Red Sea hotel.

–>The Women of the Wall attempt to break the status quo at the Kotel again.

The Women have announced that in the leadup to Passover, they will hold a “Blessing of the Priestesses” ceremony in the Kotel Plaza in front of the Wall. In this ceremony, they will don prayer shawls and bless each other–all of this in violation of an agreement that they signed a few months ago.

TODAY’S BLOG:

So what is the connection between Wadi Joz and an institution such as the University of California-Davis (where your humble servant used to be a faculty member)?

This morning, the Israel Police and officials from the Jerusalem Municipality were preparing to carry out a court-ordered demolition of an illegal home in the Wadi Joz neighborhood of Jerusalem.  The home was built illegally in 1992 and the case has been in the courts since then.

At the last moment, PM Netanyahu ordered the demolition halted.

Why? According to an Israeli government official: “These days, everyone needs to make calculated decisions in order to not inflame the region” (isn’t it amazing how the government continues to demolish Jewish homes like the Aloni one described above).

In order to not inflame the region. To put it bluntly, the government of Israel with Benjamin Netanyahu at its head is terrified of the Palestinians and what their response might be.

Let’s transition to the U.C.-Davis.

Last month, an Israeli diplomat attempted to speak in a lecture hall at the university. That diplomat was Israeli-Arab George Deek.  As Deek started to begin his talk, a large contingent of protesters led by the Students for Justice in Palestine filled the aisles, blocked the stage, and began chanting anti-Israel slogans.

The U.C. Davis police who were on hand did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

After some minutes the protesters left, and the speech took place.

However, in response to a cascade of protest from those in attendance, the Provost of the university penned a letter in which he unbelievably declared that the entire event was “a success” because no violence occurred.

And so it goes at U.C. Davis and other universities across the United States. The administrations of these universities are no different from the Prime Minister of Israel’s office.

They tremble that the Arabs and their friends might resort to violence. They allow laws to be broken (Israel), and free speech to be taken away and Jewish students to be intimidated (U.C. Davis) because they are afraid.

What is the connection between Wadi Joz and U.C. Davis?

Fear.
