–>Palestinian terror and violence over the weekend.
*It has now been a week since PM Netanyahu uttered his now infamous statement that violence in Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem, and the rest of Israel was “on the decline.” It has been a week marked by stabbings, shootings, missile launches, “rock” attacks, and Molotov firebombs.
Yesterday was no different.
Palestinian terrorists threw Molotov firebombs at Israeli homes, cars, and security personnel at Karmi Tsur, Nabi Saleh, Ras al-Amud, Zeitem, Gush Etzion, Nebi Elias, and Al-Khader.
Palestinian terrorists assaulted Israelis with “rocks” at the Tapuach Junction, Hizma, Ramat Shlomo, Road 443 near the Dor Alon gas station, Kiryat Arba, the Hussan bypass road, Tekoa, Beit Ummar, Bethany, Jalazun, Anata, Kedumim, Qalqilya, and Marda–to name a few places.
*And what is the Israeli government and IDF’s reaction to all of this violence?
Astonishingly, a senior IDF official speaking on Israel radio today, announced that an agreement will be signed with the PLO in the next few days under the terms of which IDF forces will be withdrawn from numerous areas in Judea and Samaria.
Yes, you read that correctly.
The extent of this withdrawal is not yet known, but the impact of the withdrawal is obvious. The citizens of Judea and Samaria will be placed at ever greater peril for their lives as Palestinian terrorists will be free to attack more Israeli men, women, and children with impunity.
Prepare to be ill . . . the Army spokesman added that the reason for this pullback is that Israel hopes that the Palestinians will soften their impending proposal at the United Nations.

The Chairman of the Herzog-Livni party, Yitzhak “Bougie” Herzog, was questioned by the police today concerning possible charges of accepting illegal donations, failure to report contributions, and giving a false affidavit.
Your humble servant doubts that Herzog will be indicted, but the investigation is causing an eruption of opposition to Herzog within his own party. Whether Herzog will remain at the head of the party is questionable.
And not just because of the investigation. Recent polls show the Herzog-Livni party dropping precipitously in the polls. The most recent voter survey indicated that if an election were held today, Herzog-Livni would fall from 24 seats to 15 seats in the Knesset.
–>The UNESCO fiasco and what it means.
The decision of the UNESCO Executive Board on April 11th to deny any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount is not surprising in the least. It was merely the culmination of years of steady UNESCO denial of Jewish rights in Jerusalem.
Among other things, the UNESCO resolution declared that the Al-Aksa Mosque includes the Mughrabi ramp and the Western Wall–which it calls part of the “Al-Buraq Plaza.” The resolution enumerates an extensive fraudulent list of allegations against Israel.
Two points were of interest to your humble servant:
First, the resolution was championed by Jordan which released a press release from Amman two days ago headlined “Jordan triumphant in ‘diplomatic showdown’ over Jerusalem at UNESCO.”
This is the same Jordan to which Israel has willy-nilly ceded sovereignty over the Temple Mount in recent years by acceding to every demand of King Abdullah and the Islamic Wakf.
Second, the vote in favor of the resolution was 33 votes in favor, 6 against, and 17 abstentions (a vote total remarkably similar to the 1947 vote to partition Palestine which was 33 in favor, 13 against, and 10 abstentions).
What were some of the countries that voted in favor of the Jordanian-worded resolution? France, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia, and Egypt. What does this say about these countries?
And who supported us in voting against? Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Thank you to them for voting against the UNESCO’s gross distortion of reality.
TODAY’S BLOG:
As regular readers of israelstreet know, your humble servant leads a contingent of Israel supporters each year in the annual U.C. Davis Picnic Day Parade. This year’s parade was yesterday–which explains why there was no israelstreet blog.
It was a brilliantly sunny day in Davis with a gusty north wind blowing early in the morning. According to police estimates, more than 100,000 people lined the parade route which wound through the campus and the downtown area.
Some of the people at the front of our group. As you can see, we were a happy and excited group.
This year we had a larger entry in the parade with a total of about 35 people–divided into a walking contingent and a riding contingent (riding on a horse-drawn wagon). The mood was exuberant as we started our journey just after 10:00 am.

Every year as we walk in the parade, we do so in the knowledge that U.C. Davis has become a scene of anti-Semitism in recent years. As we walk down each street and round every turn, we never quite know what to expect.
The other side of the wagon. As we walked and rode, we sang songs, waved flags, and waved to the crowd. The name of our group is “Israel Matters.”
But this year as in year’s past, we were the recipients of continuous applause from the crowds–and no negative comments whatsoever. Individuals, families, and students waved and shouted encouragement and their support of Israel. Some members of the crowd even started pro-Israel chants as we marched by.
It was wonderful!
More than this, it was wonderful to see how widespread our support was–among Hispanics, African-Americans, and especially Asians. People came up to us as we were walking by to shake our hands and give us high-fives.
At a time when Israel is criticized on almost every front and when the Obama Administration has been less than fully supportive of Israel, it is simply remarkable to see (and hear) the amazing support of the American public for Israel.
As I always say after leading our group in this parade, you should get out and support Israel whenever and wherever possible. You will will not only help Israel, you will personally feel rejuvenated!
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
