UPDATES 6 pm Israel time
…Palestinian terror today (so far)…
An IED exploded near an IDF force operating in Tubas. No soldiers were wounded.
…Palestinian terror yesterday…
Shooting attacks occurred at Migadalim in Samaria where civilians were targeted, and at Shechem where IDF forces were assaulted. Remarkably no one was physically wounded in these attacks.
“Rock” and Molotov attacks occurred in more than 20 places such as Hevron, Turmusayya, Alfei Menashe, Baisooiya, Catania, Hizma, and Yabad.
…The European Union’s new construction technique…
As the E.U. continues pouring millions of Euros into Judea and Samaria illegal construction in order to transfer Palestinians from Areas A and B to Area C, Israel’s Civil Administration is reporting that a new method of hiding the construction is being used.
This morning, 7 trailers covered with tents were confiscated near Mitzpe Jericho. In other words, tarp-like material covering portable buildings is now being used to conceal the illegal buildings.
…Judah Returned Home…
The campaign to build IDF hero Yehuda Yitzhak a new, specially-equipped home announced yesterday that it has now raised 1.4 million shekels in the last few days.
Kolakevod to everyone who has contributed to this worthy cause!
…The Supreme Court giveth and it taketh away…
On the one hand, the Supreme Court ruled this morning that tonight’s Jerusalem Day parade can go through the Muslim Quarter. On the other hand, it threw out the agreement that organizers had with the police and strictly limited the time that marchers could be in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City.
Why must the time be limited?
Because Ramadan begins tonight, and Muslims “might have difficulty reaching the Al-Aksa Mosque.”
Absolutely pathetic.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Israel Supreme Court notwithstanding, Jerusalem Day 49 has been another wonderful experience.
The main activities during the day have been:
11:00 am: A state memorial service for Ethiopian Jews took place on Mt. Herzl.
2:00 pm: A state memorial service was held on Mt. Herzl for Israeli soldiers who died in the Six-Day War.
3:00 to 5:00 pm: Jerusalem mayor Nir Birkat held an open house for Jerusalem citizens at the Tower of David Museum.
4:00 to 7:00 pm: The organization Am K’lavi is leading (at this moment) a flag waving march from the city center–through the Damascus Gate and the Muslim Quarter–to the Kotel (Western Wall).
All night long: Celebrations will take place in Sacher Park featuring such groups as Ouzo Bazooka and Hadag Nahash.
In addition, two wonderful announcements have been made.
For the first time in 20 years, the government is set to approve a new Jewish neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem. The old airport at Atarot will be transformed into dense housing with at least 15,000 apartments. (Simultaneously, and less wonderfully, 3000 apartments for Arabs will be built near Beit Hanina).
More than this, a new national museum highlighting the reunification of Jerusalem 49 years ago will be built on Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem. Moshe Ya’alon had blocked the museum for years, but new Defense Minister Lieberman approved it immediately upon taking office.
It was 49 years ago on the night of June 5, 1967 that Israeli troops launched a ferocious assault against Jordanian positions deeply dug in on Ammunition Hill. After four hours of hand-to-hand fighting in trenches and bunkers, Israeli paratroopers took the hill.
But not without a horrific cost. All of the Israeli officers except for two company commanders were killed–a total of 36 IDF soldiers died.
May their memories be blessed, and may Jerusalem forever be the undivided and eternal capital of Israel.
