…Tel Aviv shooting victim awakes…
Assaf Bar, who was shot twice in the head and gravely wounded, awoke yesterday in Ichilov Hospital with the comment: “I’m all right now; I just have a little headache and some hearing problems. Other than that I’m fine.” He then called his brother on the phone and wished him a happy birthday.
Doctors described Bar’s recovery as nothing short of “miraculous.”
…The idiotic statement of the day…
French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault:
“The decision by the Israeli authorities today to revoke tens of thousands of entry permits could stoke tensions which could lead to a risk of escalation. We must be careful about anything that could stoke tensions.”
Translated: “Heaven forbid that we should do anything that will make the Palestinians unhappy or ‘tense.’ Who knows what they might do? They might resort to violence.”
Isn’t it amazing how people like Ayrault think that the only way to avoid violence is to appease the perpetrators?
TODAY’S BLOG:
Here’s a fact about Israel that your humble servant thinks that you may not know–and it’s a fact related to Shavuot, the holiday that commemorates the giving of the Torah to the Israelite nation at Mt. Sinai and the season of the grain harvest. To celebrate the holiday, Jews eat all sorts of delicious dairy products.
But back to that unknown fact–and to the graph at the head of this blog.
The cows of Israel produce more milk per cow than any other cows in the world.
On average, cows in developing countries produce about 6000 liters of milk per year. In Europe, the amount is 8,000 liters, and in the United States about 10,000 liters.
But in Israel, the average cow produces almost 12,000 liters of milk per year.
On the above chart, the countries from left to right are: Israel, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, United States, Holland, Italy, Britain, Poland, France, German, EU28, Saudi Arabia, and China.
How such milk production possible, given the fact that Israel has a desert climate and the supposedly most desirable temperature for milk production is only 4 degrees C.?
The answer is simple.
Just as Israelis have advanced technology in numerous fields, so have Israelis greatly advanced dairy technology. These advances date back to as early as 1982 when Lachish Industries patented the first motorized milking machine.
Today, Israeli companies specialize in such areas as feed distribution, cowshed management, bovine genetics, and monitoring of cow health and fertility. So much so that Israeli dairy companies are now exporting their methods all over the world.
So the next time you drink a glass of milk or eat some cheese, in all likelihood you will be benefiting from Israeli technology.
Happy Shavuot!
