UPDATES 9 am Israel time:
…Palestinian terror yesterday unreported in the mainstream media…
A thwarted stabbing attack at the Ni’lin checkpoint, gunfire directed at the Jewish community of Mitzpe Yair southwest of Hevron, “rocks” and Molotovs thrown at Kfir, Halhul, Qablan, Asharqiya, Tel Samaria, Mt. Hevron, the Gush Etzion tunnel, El’Arub, Dahiyat al-Barid, and the Tapuach Junction–these were but a few of the Palestinian attempts to kill Israelis yesterday.
…Some good news….
Shuki Gilboa, the 31-year-old security guard of Kiryat Arba, who was badly wounded stopping the terrorist who butchered Hallal Yaffa Ariel several months ago, returned to work yesterday.
Minus one eye.
In fact, Gilboa was wounded in the head, shot in the leg, and lost his eye. After a difficult recovery, he was pronounced ready to rejoin the Kiryat Arba Rapid Response Team yesterday.
…More news…
You may remember, dear reader, that when Rabbi Miki Mark was shot to death in his car several months ago, the first people who tried to help his wife (also shot) and children trapped in the car were Palestinians.
Specifically, an unnamed man and woman stopped their car, and forced open the Mark’s car doors open with a car jack and got the children out. They then proceeded to put the children in their car to protect them. They did this despite a steady stream of passing cars in which Palestinians threatened to kill them for “helping Jews.”
The second person to help was a doctor who pulled off the road and provided critical first aid until MADA arrived. He is credited with saving Rabbi Mark’s wife, Chava.
His name is Dr. Ali Abu Shareh, and for his heroic actions he was fired from his job by the PLO last month.
Yesterday, the Mt. Hevron Regional Council announced that it is doing everything it can to get Dr. Shareh a work permit so that he can practice medicine in Israel.

…Bad news from Iraq…
Today comes news that Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement that will permit Iran unfettered access to a land route between Iran and Syria. In other words, we see the formation of a Shi’ite Crescent which can only bode ill for Israel and the Sunni peoples in the Middle East.
…Israelis at the Olympics…
It is not an exaggeration to say that all of Israel is tuned into the Olympics.
And yesterday, Israel lived and died with the matches of judoka Sagi Muki. Following the unceremonious departure of Israeli swimmers, there was a glimmer of hope that Muki might medal in his weight class–especially following three early round victories. Unfortunately those hopes came crashing down last night with losses to an Azerbaijani and a Georgian.
But never mind, kolakevod to Muki and his efforts!
By the way, Israeli hopes now rest with Maayan Davidovitch, a wind-surfer who is currently in 5th place in her event.
TODAY’S BLOG:
It was just three days ago that your humble servant heaped praise on the Israel Defense Ministry and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman for their superlative response to President Obama’s claim that all Israelis were now on board with the Iranian appeasement agreement.
Specifically, we lauded the fact that the Defense statement accurately described the agreement as being similar to the appeasement that Europe made with Nazi Germany in the 1938 Munich agreement.
Well, it turns out that our ever-pusillanimous Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, went ballistic over the statement, and yesterday the Israel Defense Ministry issued a clarification and an apology to the United States:
“The statement from Friday was not meant to make a direct comparison, either historically or personally. We apologize if it was interpreted otherwise. In light of the gross misinterpretation that was disseminated in the media of the statement last Friday, which referenced the Munich Agreement, we wish to clarify. The State of Israel and the Israeli security apparatus will continue to work in close cooperation with the United States in accordance with our deep appreciation and mutual respect . . .”
What is the definition of pathetic?
You just read it.
