You will remember that Azariah is the Hevron soldier who shot a terrorist who had already been shot and was lying on the ground after having stabbed another IDF soldier.

Whether Azariah killed the terrorist or whether the terrorist was already “dead” from other gunshot wounds was a point of contention in the trial–and one that witnesses today are delivering testimony about.

This was a trial that should have never happened urged on by a military prosecution hell-bent on finding Azariah guilty. It has caused significant damage to the IDF that will take years to completely repair.

What will be the outcome?

The decision will be rendered in December or January. If the decision is based solely on the evidence, Azariah will be found innocent. However, the decision will probably be based on political correctness in which case Azariah will be found guilty of the smallest possible crime and sentenced to time already served.

Habima Performs in Kiryat Arba

It’s just a one hour drive from Habima Square in Tel Aviv to the Mordecai H. Sassoon Community Center in Kiryat Arba-Hevron. However, it used to be a drive across an apparently unbridgeable ideological divide.

Habima has always been thought of as a cultural icon, a center of Israeli art. As such it has been a bastion of the Israeli “left”, which prides itself on being purveyors of Israeli culture and the ideological home of the peace movement.

On the other hand, Kiryat Arba is thought of by the “left” as a bastion of the “right”, a home of “hated settlers”–“occupiers” who are there for no other reasons than to thwart peace and to violently oppress Palestinians.

So you can imagine what happened last month when the Habima Theater announced it was going to perform a play (S.Y. Agnon’s  “A Simple Story”) in Kiryat Arba on November 10.

The “left” went crazy.

And in typical fashion has embarked upon a campaign of threats and intimidation against Habima in general, and actresses and actors in particular. More specifically, like its kindred spirits in BDS, it has called for a boycott of Kiryat Arba and Habima.

One leftist leader has proclaimed that the Habima decision gives “legitimization to the settlement enterprise in general and specifically to the most extreme and violent among them. The willingness of the theater, its employees and its players to take part in the normalization of the occupation, in which Kiryat Arba is transformed into just another city, is very troubling.”

For its part, Habima issued a statement that it will not conform to “any attempt at a cultural boycott in any place where Israeli citizens live.”  Habima went on to declare that “Habima Theater is the national theater of the State of Israel.”
