Palestinian Terror in the last 24 hours

There were more than 30 terror attacks yesterday. A few examples:

*An IDF soldier was lightly wounded when stabbed by a terrorist at the Qalandiya Checkpoint. The terrorist was shot and killed.

*Palestinian arsonists set fires in Gush Etzion.

*Palestinian mobs attacked IDF soldiers with “rocks”, Molotovs, and other projectiles at Abu Dis, Silwad, Tekoa, and Beit El.

*Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists at Hizma, Ma’ale Amos, Migdalim, and Atarot.

Fires continue raging

The fire at Zichron Ya’akov continues to spread. High winds are predicted for today which have put firefighters at a disadvantage. Already a number of homes have burned, and 4 children have been hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

The fire at Neve Shalom is still burning but has been contained though smoke still lingers over the Latrun Valley and Highway 1 to Jerusalem.

Snippets of all kinds:

*The Israel Supreme Court once again stuck its nose where it didn’t belong yesterday issuing a temporary injunction against the appointment of the new IDF Chief Rabbi. What gives it the right to interfere with a decision made by the IDF Chief of Staff? Nothing.

*The attempt to torpedo PM Netanyahu through the “submarine affair” has failed as we predicted it would. But don’t worry. . . the Israel media will manufacture another “scandal” by this afternoon.

*PM Netanyahu set a record yesterday for the longest continuously serving Israeli Prime Minister in history. On the other hand, David Ben Gurion still holds the record for most total time served.

*The Lebanese government announced yesterday that it is going to build a fence around the Palestinian “refugee camp”/city of Ein al Hilooa inorder to stop Palestinian terrorists from entering the country.

TODAY’S BLOG

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Checkpoint (Part 6: Final)

Today is just a short final summary of my recent trip to Samaria with Machsom Watch. If you look in the column to the right you can find links to the first 5 blogs on the subject.

I’ll present my observations in the form of a list:

1. Nothing happened to change my opinion about MachsomWatch. To her credit, Daniela, our MW guide stated at the outset that the tour would be biased. And so it was. Not so much in her presentation of the facts which were generally accurate, but in her omission of critical details such as why the Separation Fence was built, how many Palestinians live in Areas A, B, and C., etc. Also, the omission about “friends of MW” actually being paid for their presentations was telling.

The worst part of the MW presentation, however, was the disingenuous way that our soldiers were described. Though they were made out to be gun-toting monsters hell-bent on humiliating Palestinians, what we saw was something completely different. Also, at our very last checkpoint–going back into Israel–the way that Daniela tried to make us all fear the two soldiers who got onboard the bus to check our papers was absurd.  These were kids just doing their job and doing it professionally and courteously.

2. Nothing happened to change my opinion about Palestinians. There was not one statement from the three Palestinians we heard from about Palestinian responsibility for anything. All they wanted to do was to play the victim card whenever possible, and forever proclaim that “all we want is peace.” If they had really wanted peace, they could have had it decades ago.

3. Nothing happened to change my opinion about Jewish community members living in Judea and Samaria. They are brave to drive on the roads in the areas, brave to live in the areas, and certainly deserving of being protected by security fences.

4. Nothing happened to change my opinion of young “internationalists”. Whether they were on the bus with us or out burning tires at Qaddum, they seem to be a generally uninformed lot at best, and a malicious delegitimizing group at worst.

All in all it was a worthwhile experience, and I would recommend that you all see Samaria for yourselves.
