The “poor” Palestinians . . .
No money for food. No money for water. No money for clothes. No money for electricity.
But endless money for terrorists.
It was barely a week ago that a Palestinian terrorist (we will not name him here) ran over a group of IDF cadets in Jerusalem. Four of those cadets were brutally murdered and 17 more were wounded.
Today the PLO announced that the wife of the terrorist will receive an immediate payment of $1500–the standard bounty awarded to dead terrorists’ families–plus $760 a month for the rest of her life.
Think about that.
$760 a month for the rest of her life, and there is every reason to believe that the woman will live at least 50 more years. In other words, over the course of her life she will get around half a million dollars.
Half a million dollars which largely comes from European governments and NGOs.
That fact should be remembered as the Paris “Peace” Conference takes place starting on Sunday.
A follow up to yesterday’s blog
Massive protests continue in Gaza about the electricity shortages we reported yesterday.
Today, the center of activity was the town of Jabalya in northern Gaza. The protesters were countered by Hamas spokesmen who attempted to shift all the blame to Mahmoud Abbas (the self-proclaimed Palestinian president) and Rami Hamdallah (the Abbas declared Palestinian Prime Minister).
Another follow up to events reported yesterday . . .
As we noted yesterday, the Israeli government is suddenly hell-bent on carrying out demolitions of fledgling communities in Judea and Samaria. Next up is Ofra where a number of homes are scheduled for demolition early next month.
Today, many residents of Ofra were in Jerusalem protesting at the Prime Minister’s residence.
Speaking of demolitions . . .
Nine illegally built Arab homes were destroyed in Qalansawe on Tuesday sparking a protest today from Israeli-Arab legislators in the Knesset and leaders of the PLO.
What sign did they carry and chants did they shout? “Home demolitions will lead to explosions in Arab streets.”
If this sounds familiar it should. It’s the same threat we always hear. Last week it was the threat used to counter the effort to move the Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem (see today’s blog).
The remarkable ruling of a German court

If you can believe this, a German court ruled yesterday that attempting to burn down a synagogue is “freedom of speech”.
Yes, you read that correctly.
In 2014, three Palestinian-Germans tried to burn down a synagogue. They were soon captured, and dissembled that they threw Molotov cocktails into the building in order to demonstrate against Israel’s actions in the war with Hamas terroristst that was going on at the time.
A municipal court ruled that their action was not anti-Semitic and was a legitimate expression of criticism against Israeli policies. Yesterday a district court upheld the lower court’s ruling.
By the way, because of the property damage involved, the Palestinians were “sentenced” to probation.
Unbelievable.

The Capital of Israel is Moving to Beersheva
Speaking of unbelievable, how about this exchange from the U.S. Senate confirmation hearings yesterday of General Jim Mattis as the new Secretary of Defense.
Sen. Lindsey Graham: “What’s the capital of Israel?”
Mattis: “The capital of Israel that I go to, sir, is Tel Aviv because that’s where all their government people are . . . ”
Graham: “Do you agree with me that the capital of Israel is Jerusalem?”
Mattis: “Sir, right now I stick with the US policy.”
How absurd is this?
It is true that when Mattis has visited Israel he has met with IDF General Command leaders in Tel Aviv. But with IDF headquarters now moving to just south of Beersheva, one suspects that Mattis will now move the Israeli capital to Negev.
And Tel Aviv is where all of “their government people are”? The entire seat of the Israeli government is in Jerusalem and always has been. For Mattis to claim otherwise is astonishing considering he is supposed to be a man of history and intelligence.
But not really.
Mattis has proven himself through past speeches to be an Arab apologist as many of his other answers indicated yesterday. Every time he was asked about Israel, he answered with a sentence that included reference to “our Arab allies.”
What this all means for the incoming Trump Administration’s promise to move the Embassy is anyone’s guess. It has been widely reported that a new Trump plan has evolved to keep the Embassy in Tel Aviv but have the Ambassador live in Jerusalem.
Sadly, whatever the case, Mattis will be a loud voice in the new Cabinet against any move.
