The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours in Judea and Samaria . . .
January 2nd was no different from January 1st: another 30+ “rock” and Molotov attacks were carried out by Palestinian terrorists against Israeli men, women, and children at such places as: Havat Gilad, Mevo Dotan, Turmus’aya, Yitzhar, Alei Zahav, Deir Nizam, Bruchin, Tekoa, Eli Zahav, Psagot, the Sela outpost, on Road 465, Tekoa, Nahal Hahaval, and Hevron.
The level of IDF preparedness reaches a new low . . .
Thankfully, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot’s term came to an end yesterday, and Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi has taken over.
Regular readers of this israelstreet know that we have spent much of the last 4 years criticizing Eizenkot for his utter lack of competence–and before that former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Ganz for his incredibly poor performance leading the IDF in the 2014 war with Hamas.
An unnamed senior official in the Defense Ministry gave this evaluation of the current state of IDF affairs yesterday: “The readiness of the ground forces to fight is at its lowest point in years; the public needs to know that the price we will pay in the next war will be terrible. After IDF Chief Gabi Ashkenazi rehabilitated the IDF following the failures in the second Lebanon War, IDF Chiefs Benny Gantz and Gadi Eizenkot destroyed everything that Ashkenazi had rebuilt.”
Let’s hope that Aviv Kochavi can reverse the disastrous course that the IDF is on.
The holiness of the Temple Mount is an extreme issue? . . .
This morning, the Ministry of Education announced that it is removing the Jewish-Israeli culture class “Temple Mount Consciousness” from the curriculum currently being taught to junior high school students.
The removal was the direct result of a program on the ultra-leftist Channel 10 news. In that program, Ran Cohen, founder of the so-called “Democratic Block”, ranted that those producing the Temple Mount Consciousness program are “among the most extreme on the Israeli right; their agenda is neo-Kahanist, some of them are in favor of destroying the mosques on the Temple Mount.” Cohen further declared that “Under the guise of educating Judaism, they are educating them about extreme issues, and things that I believe most of the Israeli public is not interested in.”
Amazingly, the Education Ministry immediately caved in and removed the course.
In your humble servant’s opinion, Temple Mount Consciousness is something that should be taught to every elementary, junior high, and high school student in the country. Since when is teaching about the holiness of the Temple Mount to Judaism “an extreme issue”?
Moreover, the idea that the Israeli public is not interested in the Temple Mount is indicative of the same sort of thinking that led Moshe Dayan to turn over administrative control of the Temple Mount to the Jordanian Islamic Wakf after the 1967 war. It was a fallacious idea then, and it is a fallacious idea now. As is the canard perpetrated by the “left” that the “right” wants to destroy the mosques on the Temple Mount.
Hopefully, Education Minister Naftali Bennett will reverse this atrocious decision of his ministry.
In which country, do the most people work? . . .
This graph covers workers in European countries (and the U.S.). It shows that secular Israelis are near the top of men and women among the number of people who work. Note the low percentage of orthodox Jewish men and Arab-Israeli women who work.

A Disgusting Travesty of Justice:
What Happened This Morning At Amiad
How nauseating can this situation be?
For the better part of the last year, the Netanyahu government has been dithering about razing Khan Al-Ahmar, the illegal Palestinian settlement financed by the European Union.
Despite ruling after ruling by the Israel Supreme Court and High Court of Justice calling for the settlement’s destruction, Khan Al-Ahmar is still standing mainly because our cowardly government lives in fear of European Union and International Criminal Court reaction.
On the other hand, consider the Amiad outpost at Amona.
“Amiad”, consisting of two lousy trailers, went up three weeks ago on December 14th following the death of Amiad Israel, the baby born prematurely after his pregnant mother was shot at Ofra on December 8th.
Two trailers. Three weeks ago.
This morning the entire weight of the Israeli government in the form of the Israel police, Border Police and Civil Administration descended on those two trailers.
Dozens of Jewish communities members holed up inside were stun-grenaded, tear-gassed, beaten, pepper-sprayed, kicked, and dragged out of the trailers which were subsequently removed.
Khan Al Ahmar remains and Amiad is gone.
What a disgusting travesty of justice.
