Quote of the Day
“Obviously, we won’t enter a government backed directly or indirectly by the Joint Arab List.”
Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Yisrael Beiteinu Party speaking at a press conference yesterday. Lieberman was responding to PM Netanyahu’s allegation that Lieberman would go along with a Gantz minority government based on support of the Joint Arab List.
And in retrospect, it was obvious that Lieberman would never buy into the Joint Arab List idea since Lieberman’s Israeli-Russian supporters are among the most vocal groups in Israel on the subject of Arab terrorism.
Which is why the following post which went viral on social media two days ago infuriated Lieberman (and his followers):
The content of the post is that in a Kahol Lavan government headed by Benny Gantz, these are the people who would be the leaders of various ministries.
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
In Judea and Samaria:
Palestinian terrorists carried out “rock” and Molotov attacks on Israeli children, women, and men at Karmi Tzur, the Aleppo Ridge, Al Aruv, the Gush Etzion Archaeological Farm, Kiryat Arba, Jiftlik, Beit Sahur, Mt. Hevron, and Luban A Sharqiya among other places.
Palestinian terrorists carried out “rock” and Molotov attacks on IDF soldiers at Beit Anun, near Adam, Rachel’s Tomb, and Hevron.
Three cheers for the Dutch Parliament, again! . . .
Just one day after declaring its support for the Trump Administration’s statement about the legality of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, the Dutch Parliament voted today to cut off all funds to the PLO as long as it pays salaries to terrorists.
Kolakevod again!

And three cheers for Hungary . . .
According to reports, the Hungarian Foreign Minister has ordered Hungarian diplomats to block any joint European Union statement condemning the Trump Administration’s declaration about the non-illegality of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.
Despite EU Foreign Policy Head Federica Mogherini’s attempt to circulate a joint EU statement on the matter, it has not been done because Hungary has made clear it will veto it.
Bravo Hungary for standing up to the morally bankrupt European Union!
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Day After, and the Day On?
This is the day after Avigdor Lieberman declared he would not support either Likud/Netanyahu or Gantz/Kahol Lavan, a declaration which led Gantz to return his mandate to form a government to President Rivlin six hours later.
What else did that declaration mean?
It means that President Rivlin will initiate the 21-day period tomorrow. This is a 21-day period during which any member of the Knesset can attempt to gain 61 other Knesset members to form a Coalition. As we have suggested here at OneIsrael before, it is highly likely that Lieberman himself will attempt to do so.
If he makes such an attempt, he will fail miserably.
When this 21 day period is over, the Knesset will then set a date for a new election which will presumably take place between late February and mid-March.
All of which means that between now and then we have about 90 days during which the Knesset will take up a number of bills, the first of which is likely to be annexation of the Jordan Valley. The floor manager for this bill, Sharon Haskell, has already gotten Netanyahu’s permission to fast track the legislation.
It is likely to pass quickly because it is supported by Likud, Kahol Lavan, and by Lieberman.
More than this, we have Ayelet Shaked’s bill to extend Israeli sovereignty over Ma’aleh Adumim, Gush Etzion, and virtually all other Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. It is currently on a slow track and hopefully will be discussed before the next election.
All of this is further complicated because this could be “the day on.”
The day on which Attorney General Mandleblit releases his decision about indicting PM Netanyahu on Cases 1000, 2000, and 4000. Apparently his decision has been made, and it could be released as early as this afternoon–or as late as Wednesday of next week.
Whenever it is released it will have a major impact.
For example, we may see an effort within the Likud party to replace Netanyahu. Or we could see a renewed attempt by Kahol Lavan to woo Likud Knesset members to a Gantz Coalition during the 21 days. There are a myriad of possibilities.
By the way, you’d be interested to know that one of the main “news” items on pathetic Israeli television in the past few days has been a recapitulation of how Sara Netanyahu wanted pink champagne given to her.
We have missile attacks in the south, an impending attack from Iran emanating from Syria, and a possible third election, and all we hear about again is pink champagne?
Just unbelievable.
