The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror on the Gaza border in the last 24 hours . . .
It was a long day for our soldiers at the Gaza border fence yesterday as thousands of Hamasniks attacked them with Molotovs, IEDs, bombs, “rocks”, grenades, and other weapons.
This morning, we were awakened at 4:15 am by IAF jets screaming after take-off on their way to Gaza. In the intervening hours (it is now 8 am), combat helicopters have been flying past our house heading south. There is still no word on what happened or is happening.
Defense Minister Bennett moves quickly but . . .
Following up on his announcement of a new Jewish residential development in Hevron, Defense Minister Bennett declared yesterday that Israel will begin to demolish all illegal Palestinian construction in Area C of Judea and Samaria–including construction funded by the European Union.
Remarkably, he made this announcement at a meeting with European Ambassadors who are stationed here in Israel.
The big “but” in all of this is whether PM Netanyahu will allow Bennett to carry through on any of his declarations. If the past decade is any indication, the answer is a resounding “no.”
A follow up to the Rimmel murders . . .
As we have been reporting, there is no way that the so-called “accident” on Highway 443 several days ago was an accident.
The Rimmel family’s car was the last in a group of three stopped at a traffic light. It was hit from behind by a car driven by Palestinian with such force that it mashed the trunk of the car all the way to front seat.
The back seat was obliterated and that was where Tzipi Rimmel sat along with her 3 week old daughter Noam Rachel. They died instantly.
Thereupon the police comedy began.
At first, the police announced that it was an accident.
Then, the police announced that based on eyewitnesses that they were going to arrest the Palestinian driver and charge him with negligent homicide.
Then, in an amazing leap of logic, the police announced that since no alcohol or drugs were found in the terrorist’s blood, the crash could not have been deliberate, and they “unconditionally” released the terrorist (actually they released him from room arrest–he is still in the hospital).

Then, yesterday, he was arrested again and this time charged with “driving lightheadly”. This rearrest was based on more eyewitness testimony that the terrorist was driving erratically prior to the incident.
As we have noted so many times in the past, the Israel police will fight to the end to avoid labeling an attack “a terrorist attack”.
Driving lightheadely?
Israel kowtows to Jordan again . . .
Remember yesterday’s blog about the terrorist who murdered Ilya Krivitz?
As we predicted earlier this week, the Jordanian government demanded that the terrorist’s body be turned over to Jordan.
So that he can be glorified as a Palestinian hero.
Guess what?
Last night the body was handed over to the Jordanians in yet another Israeli kowtowing to Jordan.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Window Is Closing
It was just a week and a half ago that Ayelet Shaked introduced a bill in the Knesset calling for the annexation of most of Area C. If you recall, she said that there was a very small window in which to make this happen, and that the window would close very quickly.
That window began closing last night–and probably closing as well on all the talk about annexing the Jordan Valley.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted 226-188 to pass a resolution opposing Israel’s unilateral annexation of any part of the “West Bank.” Virtually all those voting in favor of the resolution were Democrats.
In addition, the House resolution included support for the “two-state solution”, and as a sop to Israel backers, support for further military assistance to Israel.
The simple fact is that PM Netanyahu and the Knesset are fiddling while annexation momentum evaporates. Why are we giving everyone from the U.S. House of Representatives, the European Union, and the International Criminal Court a chance to weigh in before we do something? Why are we paralyzed when there is an overwhelming majority in the Knesset that supports annexation?
