The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria . . .

The last 24 hours have seen terror attacks on a bus near Hizma, a family traveling in a car at Nizam (one person was wounded), another bus in the Halhul Mountains near Hevron, another family at the Karmi Tzur Junction in Gush Etzion, and more families at Deir Abu Mash’al and Silwad where multiple people were wounded.

In addition, Palestinian terrorists attacked IDF forces operating near Tekoa.

The weather turns cold . . .

15 inches of snow have fallen at Mt. Hermon since yesterday. The ski complex including the ski runs is closed because of “inclement weather.”

It’s election time again and . . .

. . . with it comes fake promises by the bushel. PM Netanyahu always travels around Judea and Samaria before elections promising new construction in Jewish communities.

Yesterday, he promised he would “promote” 3000 new apartments, but we all know it is just a joke designed to gather votes. Once the election is over, this promise like so many similar ones before it, will go straight into the trash can.

It is beginning to appear that even the plan to annex the Jordan Valley is now being put on hold. Netanyahu said yesterday that it will go forward “with the approval of the Trump Administration.”  When that approval will come if ever is anyone’s guess.

By the way the Likud primaries are being held tomorrow from 8 am to 11 pm. Gideon Sa’ar is continuing his efforts to replace Netanyahu at the top of the ticket, but he will undoubtedly go down to defeat.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Everyday Is A Holiday In Israel!

Talk about an amazing statistic.

There are 9.1 million people now living in Israel. So far this year with only one week to go, Israeli citizens have departed the country for vacations and travels 9.1 million times. As you may not know, when Israelis go traveling, they say they are going “on holiday.”

But back to those numbers. 9.1 million people, 9.1 million departures.

An average of 1.0 departures per resident!

Actually, in 2018 there were 0.94 departures per capita so the 2019 figures are only a slight increase.

By comparison, Japan has only 0.15 departures per capita and the U.S. about 0.50. Conversely, the country of Estonia leads the way with 1.3 million people and 3.6 million departures, a departure per capita of 2.7.

Israelis may not be in first place, but it is fair to say that with incredibly cheap flights in all directions, all Israelis are looking to go on holiday all the time. As the title of this blog says: “Everyday is a holiday in Israel!”
