The News on the Israeli Street
The weather goes from bad to worse . . .
Rail, sleet, and hail from Nahariya in the north to Ashkelon in the south; floods in the Negev, central Israel, and the Golan; streets and roads underwater in Tzfat, Bnei Barak, Meron, and Rehovot; it has been a stormy day in Israel with record breaking amounts of precipitation.
For example, 126 mm of rain fell in 24 hours in Tzfat.
The Likud primary . . .
As you can imagine, the dreadful weather has put a real damper on the voting in the Likud primary contest between PM Netanyahu and Gideon Sa’ar. By noon today only 8.2% of eligible voters had voted. At 3:30 pm, the percentage stood at 20.5%.
It’s not clear who the low turnout favors, but as we wrote yesterday, the only real question is how much Netanyahu will win by.

The IAF Kills The Same Dune Again
The situation is beyond pathetic.
We have reached a point at which the prime minister of Israel cannot even travel in the southern part of the country without coming under missile attack.
First, it was back in the summer in Ashdod at a campaign event during which Netanyahu had to be rushed to bomb shelter. Yesterday, the same scenario played itself out again in Ashkelon. Netanyahu arrived to campaign and within minutes, missiles were fired from Gaza at Ashkelon forcing Netanyahu into a bomb shelter once again.
Along with tens of thousands of other men, women, and children of southern Israel.
Your humble servant has grown weary of writing this, but it is unconscionable that the government of a country allows a large part of its country’s citizens to remain vulnerable to missile attacks year after year.
Even one missile attack should be enough for a government to take action and wipe out the threat. Instead, in Israel, the people of southern Israel suffer attack after attack after attack.
It never stops because Hamas and Islamic Jihad never pay a price for the attacks. For years now, there has been absolutely no deterrence.
All that happens every time is that Israel “reacts” by bombing empty sand dunes and empty observation posts and empty training grounds.
Look back at the photo above. Do you know how many times we have bombed the same seaside dune of the same beach?
And do you know what the IAF calls this area? A “Hamas naval training ground”.
As we said at the outset, it is beyond pathetic.
