The Delusional Quote of the Day
“I will bring to Israel more historical achievements that we once could only dream of ending with a peace agreement with Arab countries.”
PM Netanyahu speaking this morning
Netanyahu may be giddy with his success in the Likud primary yesterday (75% Netanyahu, 25% Sa’ar), but he has allowed his giddiness to run amok. In the first place, his win in the primary does not change the overall election dynamic–Likud is no more likely to emerge victorious on March 2 than it was back in September and April of last year.
And who is kidding whom about a peace agreement with Arab countries? The “peace” with Jordan is colder than ever; Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states have not retracted any of their demands concerning the formation of a Palestinian state; and what are we to say about Syria and Lebanon?

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
On the Gaza border:
It has been another violent day on the Gaza border with thousands of Hamasniks throwing Molotovs, IEDs, grenades, and “rocks” at our troops. Fortunately, there are no reports of any IDF soldiers being wounded–though we don’t know what happened to the soldiers in the jeep above.
Another false hope? . . .
Remember several years ago when it was announced that the IDF was on the verge of deploying lasers along the Gaza border to shoot down incoming missiles before they even crossed the border?
As you know, that deployment never took place.

According to the Border Police announcement, the first phase of development has been completed and the system will be operational in the near future.
We are not holding our breaths.
Vladimir Putin comes to Israel . . .
Well, not just Israel. Putin’s scheduled stops were released this morning and include a trip to Bethlehem on January 23 and talks with PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on January 24.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Finally An IDF Response To Terror In The South:
Flood Israel With “Workers” From Gaza
How many times have we been down this road before? How many times must the citizens of Israel suffer before our leaders realize that appeasement does not work?
This morning we have the incredible report that the IDF General Staff, led by Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, is proposing that tens of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza be allowed into Israel to work.
The nonsensical IDF notion is that Hamas and Islamic Jihad–both of which remain fully committed to the destruction of Israel–will seek peace in return for economic favors.
To put this absurdity in a different way: we should reward the terrorists for making the Israeli South virtually unlivable.
Apparently, the COGAT unit of the IDF is seeking to follow up on its already implemented plan to bring more Gazan “merchants” into Israel and to allow more “goods” into Gaza.
Can you even imagine this?
More merchants, more goods, and more missiles.
Our pathetic IDF General Command just doesn’t get it, but fortunately, another entity does: Israel’s Shin Bet security service. According to Shin Bet, Hamas and Islamic Jihad will use the thousands of “workers” to perpetrate terror attacks against Israeli civilians and create a “terror bridge” between Gaza and Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria.
But here is the real kicker. Why is the IDF determined to pursue the path of appeasement? So that it can focus its energies on the “more important” military problem in the North–namely Hezbollah and Iran.
There is simply no end to the willingness of the IDF General Command to throw southern Israelis under the bus. Let’s hope the Shin Bet stands firm in its opposition to this ridiculous plan.
