Quote of the Day
”The revolution began in 1965 and will continue until the flags of Palestine fly over Jerusalem and its holy sites.”
Chairman of the PLO Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen), speaking yesterday on the anniversary of the death of terrorist Khalil al-Wazir (aka Abu Jihad).
This statement speaks for itself, but once again calls into stark relief the sheer idiocy that Western leaders display when they call on Israel to negotiate with Abbas and the PLO.
As if the statement above was not enough, Abbas added this:
“The great leader Khalil al-Wazir represents a legacy and an example of belonging and sacrifice for free and independent Palestine, and inspiration for all fighters who sacrificed their blood . . .”
Of course as all regular readers of OneIsrael know, in the Palestinian vocabulary “a free and independent Palestine” means “a Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea established by the elimination of Israel.”
The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
*As of this hour (8 pm on Thursday), there are 12,591 confirmed cases of Corona in Israel. 138 people are in critical condition on respirators. 143 Israelis have died. 2,624 have recovered (please see “breaking news” above for updates to these figures as they are published by the Israel Health Ministry).
If you compare these numbers with those 24 hours ago, you will notice that the number of confirmed cases has increased by about 300, the number in critical condition on respirators has increased by 6, and the number of dead has increased by 17.
Unfortunately, the number of dead will only increase, perhaps steeply, as more and more nursing homes are being discovered infected with Corona. The latest one is in Ashkelon where more than 2 dozen elderly patients are now in critical condition.
*Meanwhile, the government continues lockdowns in these neighborhoods of Jerusalem:
Ramot, Shlomo, Neve Yaacov, Nof, Givat Shaul, Kiryat Moshe, Nahalot, Rehavia between KKL-JNF and Ramban Streets, Rama, Ezra Torah, Tel Erza, Mea She’arim, Beit Israel, Mosrara House, Givat Mordechai, Shmuel, Sanhadriya, and Ramat Eshkol.
In other words, it is an extensive lockdown. The only people who may leave one of the above neighborhoods are ones who need essential medical care; who are required to by the police; who are policemen, soldiers or medical staff; who are attending a funeral of a “first-degree relative”; and those who work in an essential job.
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Your humble servant is sure that you remember the horrific murders of Ziv Hajbi and Kim Yehezkel-Levengrond almost two years ago. The perpetrator of this murder was tracked down and finally killed near Shechem by Israeli soldiers two months later.
However, it turned out that the mother of the terrorist was intimately involved in her son’s terrorism. She knew her son owned a gun and practiced using it everyday, knew that her son planned to carry out a terrorist attack, and actively hid him after the murders. Yesterday, the mother was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay compensation to the families of the victims.
In your humble servant’s opinion, the sentence was far too light.

*At the Kibbutz Etzion religious kibbutz yesterday, it was discovered that Palestinian terrorists had destroyed 100 cherry trees that had been recently planted.
The terrorists came from Beit Ummar and breached the kibbutz security fence. They are still at large.
The poor Kineret . . .
All of Israel has been watching in recent months as the Kineret (Sea of Galilee) has risen centimeter by centimeter to full capacity.
If you can believe this, now that it has finally come within the last 10 centimeters of being completely full, our idiotic Water Authority has started pumping water out of it. A small canal is even being excavated to take water past the Degania Dam and into the Jordan River south of the lake.
And where will the water go once it is in the Jordan? Primarily to Jordanian farmers whose fields are adjacent to the river.
It is just unbelievable. By the middle of summer, Israel will once again bewail how the water level is dropping to drought levels yet again.
Already this afternoon, the Kineret has dropped by 1 centimeter.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Threats, Threats, and More Threats
The political game continues with Netanyahu and Gantz continuing to duke it out over various issues.
You might be asking yourself the question that given the fact that Netanyahu has turned over the keys to the kingdom to Gantz and his cohorts (they will apparently have the Defense, Justice, and other critical ministries), why is Gantz diddling on signing an agreement?
The answer is simple. Netanyahu wants immunity from prosecution for the next 18 months. If the Knesset will not give it to him, he would even like to have a “Basic Law” that reads that those under indictment can still form a government.
So far, Gantz isn’t willing to go along.
But the negotiations continue, as do the threats.
First, we heard from President Rivlin who repeated that he would not turn over the mandate to form a government to Netanyahu “because he has no chance of getting 61 votes.” Implicit in this statement is the threat that the Knesset will now be free to enact anti-Netanyahu laws.
Next, we heard from Gantz himself today as he threatened: “If there is no agreement with Netanyahu by Monday, we will immediately enact the anti-Netanyahu laws.”
Finally, we heard from Handel and Hauser, the two renegade Kahol Lavan members who nevertheless declared today: “If there is no agreement by Monday, we will support the anti-Netanyahu laws.” It would appear that without Handel and Hauser’s support, Netanyahu’s strategy for getting immunity from the Knesset is sunk.
So the question of the moment is simply “Will PM Netanyahu give into the threats or does he have something else up his sleeve?”
