Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

At 9:15 am this morning, a Palestinian terrorist attempted to stab a policeman at the Ofakim Junction near Hevron. The policeman was unwounded and the terrorist captured.

Palestinian terrorists also attacked with Molotovs and “rocks” at the Hevron Shavei Yeshiva, Luban a-Sharqiya, Al Aruv, and at least a dozen other places.

You might be asking yourself why the number of newly confirmed cases dropped so much since yesterday. The answer is simple: only 26,332 people were tested. And while that seems like a large number, it is less than half of the number tested in previous days.

The IDF Corona report this morning:

There are not nearly enough police to enforce the Corona guidelines. However, they continue doing spot checks. Here is a photo from this morning of a hairdresser receiving a fine of 5000 shekels for operating his salon illegally. Each customer inside was fined 500 shekels each:

TODAY’S BLOG

What Do Palestinian Terrorists In Gaza

And The Corona Virus Have In Common?

In some important ways, Israel is a proactive country.

For example, we do not hesitate to attack Iranian and Iranian proxy targets in Syria–even, perhaps, reaching as far as Iran itself to thwart Iran’s nuclear program. We are also somewhat proactive in Judea and Samaria. While we do almost nothing to stop illegal Palestinian construction there, the IDF does carry out continuing nightly patrols and undercover operations to try to root out terrorists before they attack.

On the other hand, we are extraordinarily non-proactive (aka “reactive”) in regard to Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. The absurd government mantra that evolved over the years is that the IDF will respond with overwhelming force to any attack. Almost never do we take proactive steps to stop terrorists before they attack, and as we know, even our reactive measures are pitifully useless as we hit empty buildings and sand dunes.

Your humble servant has been thinking about this proactive/reactive situation in regard to the Corona epidemic.

In regard to dealing with the virus, Israel has been startlingly reactive in every conceivable way.

In the first place, it is virtually impossible for any entity (Corona cabinet, Corona czar, Health Ministry, Knesset) to make a decision because each of these entities is wholly reactive to various constituencies whether they be secular leftists, the ultra-orthodox, restaurant owners, hair salon operators, and on and on.

In the second place, every action the government takes or tries to take wholly depends on whatever the data indicates at the moment. There is no plan, no all-encompassing vision that takes into account data ups and downs.

Just like the Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, the Corona virus has rendered the government impotent. It is a sad commentary on the state of affairs here in Israel.
