The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
On the Gaza border:
Red sirens for incoming missiles sounded at 8:19 pm for the area around Kerem Shalom. Tens of thousands of men, women, and children were sent running to their bomb shelters.
Residents reported hearing at least 2 missile impact explosions though the IDF spokesman said that only 1 missile exploded “in an open space.” Afterwards, the IAF attacked a “Hamas military observation post” (aka an empty, corrugated metal, ramshackle building in a sand dune along the border).
In other words, the IDF did nothing.
As usual.
In Judea and Samaria:
3 Palestinian terrorists throwing Molotovs at an Israeli vehicle at Katav (near Einav) were intercepted by IDF troops. One terrorist was shot and killed.
Palestinian terrorists attacked a bus between Dotan and Hermesh.
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis on all the major roads of Gush Etzion yesterday.

After 36 months of construction which continued despite sniper fire from Gaza, the 60 km underground wall designed to detect and stop Palestinian tunneling into Israel has been completed.
It is highly doubtful that it will stop anything. Just think about all the measures that Egypt has taken to stop Palestinian tunneling into the Sinai–and still the tunneling continues.
Almost certainly, the Palestinians will figure out a way to tunnel under the wall–if they have not done so already.
TODAY’S BLOG
“The times they are a-changin’.”
Saudi Prince Bander bin Sultan, former Saudi Ambassador to Washington and head of Saudi Intelligence Services, has given an interview to be aired on Al-Arabiya television channel tomorrow. However, portions of the interview have already been leaked.
In one part of his interview, he discussed the Palestinians. A few snippets from his remarks:
“They always come to us for help and advice. Then they take our aid and do the opposite of what we suggest. We protect them from the world even though we know they are wrong.”
“They are used to making mistakes in front of us and not paying a price. Times have changed.”
“Who are their allies? Iran, that says that the road to Jerusalem passes through Yemen and Lebanon? Turkey, that is best friends with Hamas?”
“The Palestinians always bet on the losing side and there is a price to pay. In the 1940s the Mufti supported Hitler and that was a mistake. In the 1990s Yasser Arafat supported Saddam Hussein, and it was a very painful thing. Saddam Hussein who bombed Saudi Arabia! Even Israel did not do that.”
“And what about the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas in 2007? We brought Abu Mazen and Khalid Mashaal to the same hotel in Mecca and went back and forth to reach an agreement. Saudi King Abdullah told them to go to the Kaaba and swear before Allah that they would abide by the agreement. What did they do? A few days after the agreement was signed, they renounced it.”
Your humble servant is under no illusion about the Saudis–and elsewhere in the interview Bander said that the Palestinian cause is “just.”
Nevertheless, in the words of the old Bob Dylan song:
“The times they are a-changin’.”
