Say what you will about the UAE-Israel normalization agreement, and your humble servant has certainly expressed a plethora of reservations, the sight of the Etihad plane landing this morning followed by the pilots and flight attendants deplaning while waving Israeli flags was a sight to behold.

**The IDF General Command told all farmers on the Gaza border this morning that they can no longer tend their crops because of the threat of sniper fire from Gaza.
At the end of that announcement, the IDF ridiculously added: “There are no special guidelines for residents, and the situation is routine.”
Say what?
The situation is “routine”? We now have a part of Israel in which no one can live or work because of the danger of being murdered by Palestinian terrorists and this is “routine”?
How sad it is that we have reached this state.

There are now 35,016 active Corona cases in Israel (that we know about; undoubtedly there are many people who have Corona who have not been tested).
It’s hard to believe anything coming out of the government these days. On the one hand, we could believe what the hospitals are telling us (critically ill, ventilators, dead) if only the news were updated consistently by the Health Ministry.
It’s impossible to believe the other set of numbers (confirmed cases, recovered cases) because of the egregious way these numbers are being manipulated. As we have reported here everyday, reduced testing means reduced confirmed cases. More than that, there were indications yesterday that some religious communities are sending healthy people to get tested so that the official morbidity level in their communities will drop and therefore the communities will not be closed down.
Governmental dysfunction . . .
Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi declared that the Coalition government will come to an end in two weeks unless a government agenda for meetings, appointments, and the budget is produced.
As Ashkenazi correctly said: “There is no legislation, no ministerial committee, no economic plan. If you want to succeed, it requires a 180-degree change from Netanyahu. There is no point in continuing, if this situation continues.”

The Egregious Erekat Scandal
As we blogged yesterday, arch-terrorist and PLO General Secretary Saeb Erekat is suffering from Corona.
If you can believe this, he was picked up by MADA paramedics in Palestinian Jericho yesterday and rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem after his condition deteriorated.
This is the same egregiously anti-Semitic Erekat who goes to every conceivable venue to demand that people delegitimize, boycott, and condemn the Jewish state of Israel. To anyone who will listen, Erekat regularly accuses Israel of massacres, war crimes, and genocide.
But when Erekat is struck down by Corona, where does he go for treatment? To Israel.
Why is Israel is trying to facilitate the recovery of this abominable person?
Why are Israeli taxpayers paying for his transportation to the hospital and stay in the hospital?
Why is Erekat being allowed to take up space in the hospital’s Corona ward when the space is needed by Israelis?
Adva Biton, the mother of Adelle Biton who was murdered in a “rock” attack in Samaria, spoke for most Israelis when she said this:
“Israel is in the midst of a crisis and according to the data presented, Hadassah Hospital is fully occupied and yet we received him with open arms . . . What a shame and disgrace . . . An outrageous and shameful decision, a decision that harms the bereaved families and residents of the State of Israel. A person who encourages terrorism, a person who is a member of a terrorist organization is entitled to medical treatment in our country? At my expense?”
Your humble servant could not agree more.
By the way, Erekat’s condition further deteriorated overnight, and he was anesthetized and put on a ventilator–costing us even more money.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
