The News on the Israeli Street
The “daily” Corona (Covid-19) update . . .
The following covers the last 24 hours (from 8 am yesterday until 8 am today):
333,084 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March
There were 1,169 newly confirmed cases yesterday.
275 are in critical condition—a decrease of 10
113 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 3
2,834 have died–an increase of 8
There are currently 9,429 active Corona cases in Israel.
Among the dead . . .
One of those who died yesterday was 60-year-old Khamis Abulafia whose name you may not recognize if you live outside of Israel. Abulafia was one of four Israeli-Arab brothers owning the famous Abulafia Bakery in Yaff0–the sixth generation of the family to do so.
The bakery became famous in the 1960s not only because of its renowned “bagels” but because of the fact that it closed on Israeli holidays unlike other Israeli-Arab owned businesses–thus becoming a symbol of Jews and Arabs living together.
Abulafia himself had degrees in the social sciences and spent his time delivering a weekly program on Tel Aviv radio and even on Egyptian television. He was also on the board of the Israel Broadcasting Corporation.
We at OneIsrael are sorry to see him go and offer condolences to his family.
Palestinian terror . . .
Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” and Molotovs at Israeli motorists at the T-Junction, Tekoa, Gurat A-Shema, Efrat, the Hosen Bypass Road, Road 60 near the Michmash and Kochav HaShahar Junction, on the the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road near Karmei Tzur, between the Jaba and Zurif Checkpoints, and near the Hala Checkpoint.
Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” and Molotovs at an Israeli bus at Ma’ale Amos.
Palestinian terrorists attacked IDF soldiers at the Taysir Checkpoint between Rotem and Maskiyot.

More about Palestinian terror . . .
One of the hardest hit areas has been the southern Hevron Mountains. In the past week, the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion of the Judea and Samaria Brigade has completed an operational deployment.
Yesterday the Battalion confiscated numerous weapons-making lathes in the Palestinian settlement of Dahariya.
The deputy commander of the group commented: “In the last five months, we have done everything possible to maintain the routine of life of the residents of the southern Hebron Mountains in order to thwart terrorist activity against Jewish community members . . . The goal in the activity has been to destroy the snake’s head in the battle. We will continue to work day and night with all the means at our disposal in order to maintain the proper order of life in the area.”
We often criticize the IDF General Command for its helping raze Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, but we should never forget the regular soldiers who fight to make life there livable.
Is the government coming to an end? . . .
Your humble servant has been hesitant to give much coverage to the ongoing battle between Likud and Kahol Lavan over the creation of the yearly budget. That battle has threatened to rip apart the already fragile Coalition.
That hesitancy has been because Israeli politicians thrive on brinkmanship always threatening to force new elections whenever they don’t get their way.
However, it appears that the die may have been cast, and the Knesset may actually vote to dissolve itself next week.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Who Assassinated Mohsen Fakhrizadeh?
The head of Project Amad also known as the father of the Iranian nuclear program is dead.
59-year-old Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed by unknown assailants on a rural road in Absard Town, about 100 km east of Tehran.
A truck carrying explosives hidden under a load of wood exploded in front of Fakhrizadeh’s car. Then a SUV pulled up along side the car and those inside opened fire spraying the car with numerous bullets
A brigadier general in the Revolutionary Guards, Fakhrizadeh supposedly died after being taken after being riddled with bullets–but it is difficult to see how he could have survived the assault.
He was called out by PM Netanyahu back in 2018 when Israel staged the raid on Tehran that netted Iranian nuclear files.
So . . .
Was it Mossad? Was it U.S. Special Forces?
Whatever the case, Israel will get the blame, but with Fakhrizadeh gone, the world is a better place.
More on this story tomorrow.
