Say A Prayer
When you have a moment dear reader, please say a prayer for Rivka (Rebecca) Teitel, the woman who was critically wounded when she was hit in the head by a “rock” thrown by a Palestinian terrorist during an attack in Samaria yesterday (see photos of the attack scene here).
After hours of neurological surgery at Sheba Hospital, she is now listed in critical but stable condition.
More facts emerged about the attack yesterday. After Rivka was hit, her 14 year old son was the one who finally managed to take control of the car by pulling up the hand brake. Late last night, a few of the terrorists who carried out the attack were captured.
Blackly Hilarious Quotes of the Day
(both related to the Netanyahu-Jabarin photo op several days ago)
You will recall that PM Netanyahu inexplicably picked a convicted Israeli-Arab killer, Muhammad Jabarin, to celebrate as the one millionth recipient of the corona vaccine in Israel.
Yesterday Jabarin had this to say: “I have never voted for Likud before, but I will this time.”
Of course, this statement is just more ammunition for Netanyahu’s foes in the coming election who already have pounced on the photograph as evidence of Netanyahu being out of control.
Speaking of which, we had this gem from Netanyahu himself yesterday while talking to a group of Likudniks: “We love the Arabs, we have at least 2 seats there.”
Your humble servant doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .
Here are the numbers over the last 24 hours (from 8 am yesterday until 8 am today):
438,869 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.
There are 4,070 newly confirmed cases.
766 are in critical condition—an increase of 26
207 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 19
3,417 have died–an increase of 25
There are currently 48,372 active Corona cases in Israel.

A slight drop in the number of newly confirmed cases and active cases; an increase in the number of critically ill and on ventilators: the worst is that 25 more people have died.
In terms of morbidity, the numbers remain bad: 6.6% of all those tested yesterday tested positive for the virus.
134,226 Israelis were vaccinated yesterday bringing to 1,224,000 the total number vaccinated so far. This number led to the following comment from Health Minister Yuli Edelstein: “We are winning the vaccine race, but unfortunately are losing the battle against the mutation. The current surge in morbidity should worry every elected official . . .”
In praise of Israeli-Arabs . . .
There is some surprisingly good news from the Israeli-Arab sector this morning.
According to the IDF Personnel Division, more than 1000 Israeli Arabs are in the process of volunteering for IDF service–double the number of last year. On the one hand, it is not surprising that a number of these are Bedouins who are joining the famed Bedouin tracker and scout unit, but on the other hand it is surprising that a significant number are coming from such places as the Triangle Area in the Galilee and from eastern Jerusalem.
What is even more surprising is that many of these recruits have volunteered for combat service in the Kfir and Nahal Brigades.
What happened in Lebanon last night? . . .
Last night around 8 pm, wave after wave of IAF aircraft passed over our house heading north.
At about the same time, there were reports of more than a dozen Israeli aircraft over Beirut, and this morning we hear that several large fuel repositories were blown up along the Lebanese-Syrian border last night.
The situation along the Israel-Lebanese-Syria border remains very tense with Hezbollah leader Nasrallah convinced that President Trump will try to assassinate him before he leaves office, and Iran on highest alert for a possible U.S. attack.
As I write these words this morning, more waves of aircraft are heading north.
Other news of the day:
*Iran announced today that it is now enriching uranium to 20%.
*The Golani fighter who had been dismissed from service because he did not fire on a terrorist who hit him with a Molotov (for fear of being court-martialed) has been reinstated to combat duty.
TODAY’S BLOG:
How Well Is “Normalization” With The Muslim World Going?
The short answer is not well.
First, we had Sudan backtracking on its agreement because of conflicts with the U.S. over promises made, then we had Morocco reaffirming its commitment to the “Palestinian people” and saying there wouldn’t be full normalization until the Palestinian issue is resolved. In the midst of that, we have had countries such as Saudi Arabia and Indonesia indicating that normalization will happen no time soon.
This morning, it appears that the original normalizer, the United Arab Emirates, is slowing down the pace of normalization because:
*Israel has labeled the UAE “red” for Corona.
*Israelis have already been caught using drugs in the UAE.
*Israelis have been organizing sex tours to the UAE.
*Israelis have already trashed a number of hotel rooms they stayed in.
*Numerous Israelis have been showing up in the UAE without having first gotten the proper visa–meaning that they have essentially been dumped on the UAE bureaucracy.
What are the impacts of these items? UAE delegations have postponed coming here, and PM Netanyahu’s planned visit to the UAE and Bahrain is on indefinite hold.
In a political sense, if the UAE normalization as well as the others start going south, you can also expect PM Netanyahu’s election chances to begin going south as well.
