The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Palestinian terrorists set fire

Palestinian terrorists set fire to agricultural fields and equipment at Karni Ram Farm in the Nahal Kana area of Samaria (photo Hakolhayehudi).

It has been a weekend of arson in Judea and Samaria. In addition to the above fire, terrorists torched an area near Nofim and at Nili.

At the same time, the plague of “rock” and Molotov attacks continued with assaults on Israelis in more than two dozen locations.

In the south, explosive balloons continue being launched out of Gaza.

Last night, a heavily armed terrorist infiltrated Israel from southern Gaza and wounded the community security coordinator at Moshav Avshalom. Another security guard shot the terrorist.

The continued fraud of the NY Times photo collage . . .

Yesterday, we reported on how multiple leftist newspaper rags had published a collage of photos supplied by Hamas which purported to show all the children killed by Israel in the recent war.

We particularly pointed out the case of Rahaf Al Masri, a young girl who actually died after accidentally falling from the third floor of her school last year. Your humble servant wondered at the time: Who really knows how any of the other children pictured died?

We add another query today which is: “how many of the so-called children were actually terrorists?”

This leads us to another photo in the collage:

This particular “child” was in fact:

A smiley faced terrorist.

A smiley faced terrorist.

A smiley faced “child” who was a terrorist member of the Majaden Brigades.

By the way, The New York Times issued a correction last night in the case of the Rahaf Al-Masri.

The latest Corona update . . .

TODAY’S BLOG

Netanyahu Is Out: Bennett And Lapid Are In

As we reported yesterday, Yamina leader Naftali Bennett announced last night that his party will join with Lapid’s Yesh Atid to form a unity government.

In response to the Bennett’s announcement, PM Netanyahu almost immediately took to the airwaves in what can only be described as a transformative moment.

With dark circles under his eyes, an angry Netanyahu launched into a petty invective in which he vindictively denounced Bennett as a traitor to the right-wing who was throwing those who voted for Yamina under the bus. Netanyahu obsessively went on and on and on about Bennett this and Bennett that.

Not a word about the country, not a word about unity, not a word about making Israel a better place: Bibi had only one thing on his mind and that was Bibi and his impending loss of power.

Much of what he said was hypocritical to say the least:

–how could Netanyahu possibly charge Bennett with betraying the right when it was Bibi who brought leftist Benny Gantz into his coalition last year–and made him associate Prime Minister and Minister of Defense?

–how could Netanyahu possibly charge Bennett with betraying the right when it has been been Bibi who has stymied construction in Judea and Samaria, surrendered ever more power to the Islamic Wakf on the Temple Mount, and once again brought a war with Gaza to an unseemly end?

–how could Netanyahu possibly charge Bennett with catering to the Islamist Raam Party when Bibi himself spent the last three months doing everything he could to bring Islamist Raam into a Bibi-led coalition?

How did PM Netanyahu ever get to this point? Over the years he has methodically sustained his hold on power by systematically crushing anyone who might threaten him. The list of those tossed aside is long and includes people like Naftali Bennett, Gideon Saar, and Avigdor Lieberman–some of the very same people who are now determined to bring him down.

And still he could have easily kept Likud in power if only he had turned over the reins of the Party to any one of a number of people such as Nir Barkat, Israel Katz, or even Yariv Levin.  But he would not.

He simply could not and would not put Likud before himself–and he was perfectly happy to take Israel to yet another election–all in the name of personal power.

Do you know what took place in June of 1966–25 years ago? Benjamin Netanyahu first became Prime Minister. With a ten-year intermission between 1999 and 2009, he has been in power ever since.

He has performed magnificently as Israel’s Prime Minister and represented us as no one else could on the world stage, but the time has come for him to step aside.

One final note: current and future historians will certainly marvel at how Naftali Bennett, with only 7 seats won in the recent election, has managed to finagle his way into becoming prime minister for the next two years.
