UPDATES 5 pm Israel time Tuesday:
**Interesting statistics published yesterday in relationship to the ongoing attempt of Benjamin Netanyahu to form a coalition. Yair Lapid’s party, Yesh Atid, is demanding that every 18 year old–including the ultra orthodox and Israeli Arabs– report for military service. The orthodox parties of Shas and United Torah Judaism are seeking exemptions for those studying in yeshivas as are many Israeli Arab groups.
At the moment there are approximately 2,400 ultra-orthodox haredim serving in the IDF along with 400 Israeli-Arabs. There are another 2,400 Israeli Arabs who are performing national service other than military service.
**Another 7 Molotov cocktails thrown by Palestinian terrorists at IDF forces last night in Samaria. It is now estimated that at least one Molotov cocktail is being thrown at Israelis in Judea and Samaria everyday. So many that the following sign is now popping up on roads leading into the area warning of “Molotov cocktails ahead”:
TODAY’S BLOG:
It’s enough to make you sick.
Israel’s infamous IDF COGAT* unit has just signed off on Turkish construction of a large, 150 bed hospital in northern Gaza.
COGAT’S Maj. Gen. Eitan Dangot, who unbelievably approved the delivery of metal for rockets, gasoline and electricity to power the rocket launchers, money to fund the war against Israel, and all kinds of other supplies into Gaza while Hamas was launching more than 1,500 rockets into southern Israel in November, has approved the Turkish request to send Turkish building materials and medical equipment into Gaza.
You may be asking yourself why Dangot needed to approve this–since Gaza is not “occupied” by Israel and the Rafah Crossing from Gaza into Egypt is wide open. Dangot needed to approve the shipment of Turkish construction materials and medical into the port in Ashdod, overland by trucks to the Kerem Shalom Crossing, and on into Gaza.
Dangot has also approved the entrance of a large Turkish group of engineers and managers through Israel into Gaza to lead the construction project.
This is the same Turkey whose military threatened three months ago to attack Israel oil and gas platforms should they be built close to Cyprus. This is the same Turkey whose President said last week that Syria should attack Israel. This is the same Turkey whose PM said this week that any attack on Gaza will be an attack on Turkey–and that there will never be normal relations between Turkey and Israel.
What in the world is Israel thinking about? Is Israel so desperate for international approval that it is willing to be dragged through the mud by Turkey?
As your humble servant has stated on many occasions, the COGAT Unit needs to be terminated–it only serves the enemies of Israel. And, as for Eitan Dangot, I’m sure he could find an excellent job in Ankara, Cairo, Riyadh or a host of other Arab countries.
*COGAT stands for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories–a complete misnomer in this case. Gaza is not a territory of Israel. Israel withdrew from every square millimeter of Gaza almost a decade ago.
