The American Consulate in “East” Jerusalem

UPDATE 5 PM ISRAEL TIME TUESDAY:

Sometimes, you may wonder, dear reader, about your humble servant’s absolute loathing of the Israeli “left”.  It is not enough that the “left” attempts to delegitimize Israel on the international stage, but also it constantly attempts to destroy Israel from within.

This morning we had a particularly egregious example of the mindset of the “left”.

Can you believe that the tragic crash last night of a Cobra helicopter during a training exercise that killed two IAF pilots was actually a source of delight for those on the “left” of the Israeli political spectrum? Noa Shaindlinger, a leading Israeli leftist “activist”, posted this online: “We may have some good news later this morning (hint: IOF drill accident with casualties).”

Absolutely, positively, disgusting.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The American Consulate in Jerusalem, Israel

President Obama’s arrival in Israel is now only 8 days away (12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 20), but his itinerary has already been announced. In an otherwise unremarkable description of his trip released by the White House yesterday, your humble servant was struck by one entry:

“6:30 pm: President Obama, along with Secretary of State John Kerry,  will attend a reception at the American Consulate in East Jerusalem.”

Given the Obama Administration’s determination to divide and de-Israelize Jerusalem (even to the point of fighting in the U.S. Supreme Court to not let American citizens born in Jerusalem list “Jerusalem, Israel” as their birthplace), the description of the American Consulate in Jerusalem as being in “East Jerusalem” is not surprising.

Oddly however, the heading of the Consulate webpage lists the following:

Consulate General of the United States

Jerusalem

Of course, as we all know, Israel is the only country in the world whose capital is not recognized by the United States. And, to your humble servant’s knowledge, Israel is the only country in the world in which the American Embassy is not located in a country’s capital city.

All of that is bad enough, but the Obama Administration listing of the American consulate as being in “East Jerusalem” is a blatant and pathetic attempt to draw a line through Jerusalem based on the 1949 Armistice Lines. The listing gives us a glimpse of what Obama will demand of Israel in his coming visit–and during the next four years of his Administration.
