Let Us All Pray For the Recovery of Rabbi Yehuda Glick

UPDATES 6 pm Israel time, Thursday, October 30 2014:

—>A senior IDF officer revealed today just how low Israeli deterrence has fallen. Commenting on the possibility of war with Hezbollah, the officer said: “We do not have the power to stop Hezbollah from the air; on the first day of a war we will have to close Ben Gurion Airport and the Port of Haifa.”

—>The vulgar comments of the “unnamed” source in the Obama White House continue to echo today with John Kerry claiming to all who will listen that he and the President had nothing to do with them.

Except that the unnamed source has now been named–and it is none other than Ben Rhodes who carries the lengthy title of “Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and Speechwriting.” Few people are as intimately involved with the President and the Secretary of State as Ben Rhodes.

No stranger to controversy, Rhodes is also at the center of the “talking points scandal” related to the Benghazi terrorist attack that resulted in the murder of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya as well as American security personnel.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Regular readers of israelstreet will remember that we have often praised the efforts of Rabbi Yehuda Glick, the leader of HaLiba–a coalition of groups seeking “comprehensive freedom and civil rights for Jews on the Temple Mount.”

A man who has made the opening of the Temple Mount to Jews his life work, Rabbi Glick is a man of peace who has attempted to befriend everyone from the Muslims on the Mount who regularly spit on him and curse him as “a Jew”, to the odious Jerusalem Police who have regularly arrested him.

Yesterday, Rabbi Glick was participating in a Temple Mount conference at the Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem. He had finished speaking and was loading materials into his car at the entrance to the Center when an Arab terrorist–who worked in the restaurant of the Begin Center–approached him on his motorcycle, pulled out a gun, shot Rabbi Glick four times in the chest and stomach, and then escaped.

At this hour, Rabbi is fighting for his life. Unfortunately, the latest reports are not good; according to Glick’s sister, his situation has deteriorated in the last few hours.

The terrorist who shot Rabbi Glick is dead. He was killed earlier this afternoon after being located in the Abu Tor neighborhood of Jerusalem by Shin Bet and then opening fire on a Jerusalem Police Swat Team that surrounded the rooftop where he was hiding behind a solar panel.

Moataz Hejazi meets his timely end.

As we pray for Rabbi Glick, there are a number of crucial questions that need to be asked this evening:

1. Where in the world was police security for Rabbi Glick before, during, and after the Conference? According to reports that have surfaced, the Rabbi had pleaded with the Police on five separate occasions for security in light of continuing threats against his life. After asking most recently, the Police told Glick that “it was not in the public interest” to provide him security or to investigate the death threats.

2. How in the world was the terrorist, 32-year-old Moataz Hejazi, employed by the Begin Center to work in its restaurant? Hejazi had been imprisoned for 10 years between 2002-2012 for violence related to Al-Aksa, and upon his release declared his intention to fight against “Zionist” entities in Jerusalem (click on this link to hear the terrorist in his own words–you will need to either understand Arabic or read Hebrew). And this person was hired by the Begin Center?

3. Why in the world isn’t everyone talking about the Palestinian and Israeli left-wing incitement that led to this assassination attempt? Mahmoud Abbas has issued 19 separate statements in the last 3 days inciting Arabs to defend the Temple Mount. Palestinian media have regularly carried pictures targeting Glick:

Already this afternoon, Hamas spokesmen have lauded the attack and extolled the terrorist as “heroic and brave”, while Islamic Jihad (which Hejazi belonged to) has proclaimed that Glick “got what he deserved.” On the Israeli left, Haaretz has run a series of articles branding Glick as a “right-wing extremist”, and Channel 2 even ran a news piece today terming Glick a “terrorist” (which it later retracted).

Finally, the Jerusalem Police announced in the wake of the attempted assassination that no Muslims and no Jews would be permitted on the Mount today. Indeed 20 Jews were stopped from entering the Mount this afternoon. But, as usual, the Police have lied. Here is a picture from a few hours ago:

No caption is needed. This is in the Al-Aksa Mosque this afternoon (picture: Judge Dan).

Outrageously, the Police have just announced that Muslim worshipers will be permitted on the Mount tomorrow “subject to age restrictions.”

But no Jews.

Unbelievable.
