16 Days Until The Election

By the numbers:

1: the number of synagogues that were vandalized by Arabs in Israel yesterday with anti-Semitic graffiti. The picture below is from Ramle:

The writing on the wall under the menora reads "Death to the Jews". Note that it is written in Hebrew.

The writing on the wall under the menora reads “Death to the Jews”. Note that it is written in Hebrew.

Why is it written in Hebrew you may ask? Because Israeli Arabs are completely fluent in Hebrew–and Ramle happens to be a city in Israel with a large population of Israeli Arabs.

By the way, you may remember that there was a hue and cry from the Israeli and international media about a mosque in Jaba which was similarly defaced last week–except that the graffiti there read “Death to Arabs” in poor Hebrew writing.  Immediately, allegations of “hate crime” were hurled at “right wing Israeli settlers” with absolutely no proof whatsoever. At the time, your humble servant suggested that, as in previous instances, the culprits were likely Arabs attempting to garner international attention.

6: the number of Israeli-Arabs who were arrested yesterday among the dozens who were protesting at a campaign event of  the “Zionist Camp”. Herzog and Livni were making an appearance in the north at Wadi Ara in an attempt to win over Israeli-Arab voters when they were confronted by a large group yelling: “You have blood on your hands” and “Zionist Camp, Radical Camp.”

6.46 shekels: the new cost of a liter of 95 octane, self-service gasoline this morning in Israel. This is an increase of 38 agorot (6.25%) from yesterday. It comes about because of an increase in the price of fuel in the Mediterranean area of 23.2% in February.

125: the number of main intersections in Israel that the V15/One Movement plastered with Herzog/Livni signs yesterday. President Obama’s ground game manager, Jeremy Bird, is going all-out to defeat PM Netanyahu by having activists put campaign posters everywhere, knock on doors all over the country, and hand out campaign literature on every street corner.

According to Israeli election law, all parties are free to run campaign advertisements on radio, TV, and in the print media beginning tomorrow morning.

TODAY’S BLOG:

PM Netanyahu leaves for United States this morning for his speeches at the U.S. Congress and at AIPAC.

On Friday, a defiant Netanyahu gave an interview to the Kol Barama orthodox Jewish radio station after visiting his father’s grave in Jerusalem. He explained that he always went to his father for advice and inspiration at crucial points in his life*:

“He said to always look at the threats endangering our people. He said that one of the things that was lacking in Jewish history was seeing in real time what endangers our existence.

My responsibility is to worry about not only about the state of Israel, but also about the future of the Jewish people. . . Seventy, eighty years ago, no one could raise their voice when there were plans to destroy us. Today there is, and it is my obligation.

When there is something that is connected to our very existence, what do they expect the Prime Minister of Israel to do, bow his head and accept something that is dangerous in order to have good relations? I think the relations [between the U.S. and Israel] are strong enough to overcome the disagreements, and that Iran with an atomic bomb is much more dangerous than one disagreement or another.”

Three cheers for Netanyahu!

Let’s hope his speech serves as a unifying force for those who see the danger of Iran.

And for those obsequious Obama sycophants who choose to boycott the speech, they should know that they are possibly missing an important moment in history and that the same history will judge them for it.

A final note.

Netanyahu’s schedule in Washington:

Monday morning: Netanyahu delivers speech at AIPAC

Tuesday morning (11 am): Netanyahu delivers speech at U.S. Congress

Tuesday afternoon: Netanyahu will have lunch with a bipartison group of American legislators

Tuesday evening: Netanyahu will fly back to Israel before the start of Purim.
