9 Days Until The Election

Quotes of the Day:

Hillel Fertouk, organizer of the rally (see Today’s Blog below) in Tel Aviv last night:

“It is a political, non-partisan rally to support the center and the left.”

Iranian Ayatollah Mohammed Emami-Kashani declaring yesterday that the Iranians have already emerged victorious in the talks with the U.S. because the Iranian nuclear weapons program has been legitimized:

“If this agreement is reached both sides will emerge a winner–it would be a win-win. If it is not reached it will be a win-lose: the U.S. will have lost again.

Numbers of the day:

140,000: the number of Purim Mishloach Manot packages delivered by the Friends of the IDF to soldiers in the IDF over the Purim holiday.

9th: according to a study done by Dr. Fumiaki Imamura of Cambridge University, Israel has the 9th healthiest diet for its citizens in the world because of the emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables. What countries were 1-8? In order: Chad, Sierra Leone, Mali, Gambia, Uganda, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Senegal. The worst 3 diets in the world are in Armenia, Hungary, and Belgium.

TODAY’S BLOG:

How many folks do you think are in this picture from last night?

So how many people actually showed up at the leftist “Israel Wants Change” rally last night in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv that was organized by the “One Million Hands Movement”?

As the name implies, the organizers had hoped for a million anti-Netanyahu people to jam Rabin Square and surrounding streets, or at least the same “hundreds of thousands” who did so during the social justice demonstrations several years ago.

Yediot Aharonot, Israel’s daily “I hate Netanyahu” newspaper estimated the crowd at 80,000.

The Tel Aviv municipality led by distinctly “I hate Netanyahu” mayor Ron Huldai estimated the crowd at 35,000 as did the event’s organizers.

Haaretz, Israel’s premier left-wing newspaper newspaper estimated that between 25,000 to 35,000 leftists were in attendance.

Tel Aviv police officials estimated that “up to” 25,000 folks showed up.

And just who were the people who came, the people who were supposed to represent the center and left from all over the country?  Most of them were members of Meretz–Israel’s left wing party. And many of them were the children, the non-voting children, of Meretz members.

In short, this was the rally that wasn’t.

Meretz itself got some bad news on Friday when the United Arab List refused to partner with it for surplus votes in the coming election. Because of this refusal, Yair Lapid’s leftist Yest Atid party has so surplus vote partner–a fact that may cost the lefties dearly on election night.
