3 Days Until The Election

**Remember the plea that israelstreet published about a month ago to help fund the ability of an IDF soldier to regain his sight? The fantastic news is that you in the international community came through. The funds were raised, and he is already being trained in how to use his new glasses!

**Miri Regev of the Likud Party has called for an immediate criminal investigation into allegations that while Minister of Welfare and Social Services, Isaac Herzog diverted money intended for nursing facilities for Israelis into a fund to defeat the then leader of the Labor Party, Shelly Yachimovich.

As Regev so accurately pointed out, Herzog has claimed “his right to silence” in every major scandal surrounding him from the V15 campaign against Netanyahu to one fifteen years ago when NGO funds that he managed were apparently used in Ehud Barak’s campaign for prime minister.

Regev continued: “It cannot be that all the cases connected to Buji [Herzog’s nickname] are hidden from the eyes of the public, are not reported and are not checked . .  Buji is far from innocent, this is a man with the face of a lamb and the body of a snake.”

**There has been massive terrorism against Israelis in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem in the last week.  Israelis have been hit with IEDs, shot at, attacked with “rocks” and Molotov cocktails, and run over. 9 Israelis were wounded in the attacks.

In the last two days alone, Palestinian terrorists:

attacked an Israeli vehicle at the Beit Haggai Junction at Mt Hebron

attacked an IDF patrol at the Palestinian settlement of Malik near Ramallah with “rocks” causing numerous wounds and requiring soldiers to be treated in the field

attempted to ram an Israeli checkpoint at Jit near Kedumim

shot projectiles at security forces in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City

assaulted vehicles near Anatot Binyamin

struck an Israeli motorists on Rt. 60 near the Yitzhar Junction

And the list goes on and on . . .

**The quote of the day from the Head of the Supreme Court of the PLO and President Mahmoud Abbas adviser:  “Anyone who supports the establishment of an independent state in Gaza is a traitor to Allah and His Messenger.”

Of course, there has been an independent Palestinian state in Gaza since 2007.

TODAY’S BLOG:

It was March 10, 1976 when Ralph Carpenter, a local journalist in Dallas, Texas uttered the following words following a comeback by the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team: “The opera ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings.”

Three years earlier, Yogi Berra (one of your humble servant’s early heroes) etched his name into the immortal list of quotations when he said of the baseball pennant race: “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”

What does all of this have to do with Israel this morning?

Last night, the Israeli “Left” seemed to awaken to the possibility that Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni may win the battle and still lose the war.

Most surveys still have Likud bleeding votes to Herzog-Livni, but a fairly major poll, the respected and objective Teleseker Poll used by Walla News, actually showed in their final poll yesterday that over the last 3 days, Likud has gained 3 seats putting it within 2 seats of Herzog-Livni (25-23).

Following the reportage of that, Channels 2 and 10 were intent on showing wild celebrations that took place after previous elections when it first appeared that the “Left” had won only to find out the next morning that the Leftist candidate could not form a coalition.

And there’s the other part of the rub.

Where are Herzog-Livni going to get those 61 seats? In a little bit of good news for Netanyahu yesterday, the leader of the United Torah Judaism (Ashkenazi Orthodox) party said that his party would have no problem being in a coalition with Herzog-Livni and even with Meretz, but it would never, ever, be in a coalition with Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party. Inasmuch as Yesh Atid would be an integral member of a Herzog-Livni coalition, United Torah Judaism will certainly not be.

More than this, to listen to the punditry yesterday, the deal between Herzog-Livni and the Arab List is shaky at best. And even if that materializes, it will all probably come down to Leiberman and Kahlon (Yisrael Beiteinu and Koolanu).  And Yachad, the small party that splintered off from Shas–and is the most “Right” of all the parties.

Given this overall situation, it is not surprising this morning that the Israeli Left has turned its attention to attacks on the Israeli Right–especially on the Yachad party that could tip the scales to the Right if it passes the threshold and wins 4 seats.

A lot more will be known on Sunday night in Tel Aviv when a “rally for the Right” is taking place. Will Leiberman show up? Will Kahlon? If they do, it could portend a rough ride for Herzog and Livni.

Finally, israelstreet still stands by its predictions–but always keeps Yogi Berra’s proscription in mind: “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”

By the way, one person who will definitely be at that rally in Tel Aviv is your humble servant.
