Israel’s Eventual Annexation of Judea and Samaria Happily Creeps Ever Forward

**”Spring time” arrived in Israel last night with the clock moving ahead one hour.

**The first day of coalition talks proved to be a bust yesterday with Netanyahu’s marathon talks with Beit Yehudi apparently going nowhere. Moshe Kahlon and Koolanu refused to even show up following reports that Netanyahu has offered the Finance Committee chairmanship to one of the religious parties.

**Isaac Herzog seems completely unable to internalize the fact that he has just badly lost an election. Nor has he taken lightly to the fact that many in Israel have reverted to calling his “Zionist Camp” party by its old name of “Labor.”

Yesterday he issued this statement as if he was still campaigning: “The Zionist Union is not a pawn in the game of running to destroy the state of Israel that Netanyahu and Bennett are playing.”

Come on little Bougee (Herzog’s nickname . . . the “g” is pronounced like the French pronoun “Je”). Get over it.

**As the U.S. continues to rush headlong into a nuclear agreement with Iran, Iran continues to support the Houthis in Yemen with weapons, money, and manpower. Some of that manpower includes Hezbollah fighters from Lebanon who have been brought in to organize the Houthis into a more effective fighting force.

Egypt on the other hand is using its naval power in support of Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states. 4 Egyptian vessels have moved down the Red Sea and are now positioned off the coast of Yemen to secure the Gulf of Aden.

The Gulf of Aden, and particularly the Straits of Bab-el-Mandeb are crucially important to Egypt because ships sail through there to reach the Suez Canal.

TODAY’S BLOG:

A very important event is taking place on June 1.

As of that date, Palestinian terrorists and criminals will be afforded defenses in IDF military courts in Judea and Samaria in accordance with the principles of Israel criminal law.

This week, the outgoing commander of the IDF Central Command, Gen, Nitzan Alon, signed a military order authorizing that Amendment 39 of Israel criminal law will be applied to Palestinians.

The net effect of the order is to afford more rights to Palestinian defendants who heretofore had been subject to Jordanian law. Now, Palestinians defendants can avail themselves of such elements of Israeli law as consideration of “criminal intent” as well as various exemptions from criminal liability such as insanity and the lack of criminal liability of minors under 12 years old.

Israel’s intelligence service Shin Bet had initially argued vigorously against the change noting that this expansion of defense rights will undermine its efforts to root out terrorist cells.  And so had the Justice Ministry under Tzipi Livni.

Why you may ask would leftist Tzipi Livni argue against an order that would expand Palestinian rights?

Simply because this order extends another aspect of  Israeli law to Judea and Samaria.

As Israeli self-proclaimed “human rights” lawyer Smadar Ben-Natan lamented yesterday: “The amendment continues the process of applying foreign law [read: Israeli law] on the territories . . .”

The eventual annexation of Judea and Samaria, particularly Area C, continues to creep ever forward.

And as bad as the extension of more rights to Palestinian terrorists and criminals may be, the annexation of Area C of Judea and Samaria to Israel is a very good thing.
