The Temple Mount is ours–but you would never know it . . .

UPDATES

6 pm Israel time, Friday, May 29 2015

**A small snapshot of Palestinian terrorism in Judea and Samaria yesterday: at 8:42 am, an Israeli was wounded by “rocks” thrown at his car near the Anata intersection near Jerusalem; at 11:27 am, Arabs threw Molotov cocktails at a military observation point in Gush Etzion; at 2:34 pm, a series of Israeli motorists were attacked by Palestinians throwing “rocks” near the Yitzhar junction; in the late afternoon, Palestinians set fires in a forest near Mt. Hebron; at 6:00 pm, terrorists were busy attacking Israeli motorists again near Al-Fawwar.

In all, more than 140 terrorist attacks were carried out by Palestinian terrorists in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem this week.

**Palestinian Soccer Association President and pre-eminent PLO terrorist Jibril Rajoub announced today just prior to a FIFA vote that the Palestinians were withdrawing their proposal to oust Israel from FIFA. It was a face saving move given the fact that the proposal was about to voted down.

However, the situation was not taken too well by anti-Israel protesters in Zurich who increased their protest outside the FIFA congress building. One protester waving a Palestinian flag even broke into the building and had to be restrained by security officials. Shortly afterward, the FIFA building had to be evacuated because of a bomb threat.

**Cypriot authorities have thwarted a major attack on Israelis in Larnaca today. A Lebanese-Canadian member of Hezbollah was captured with two tons of weapons and bombmaking materials.

Rabbi Shlomo Goren (center) blowing a shofar and carrying a Torah in his left hand, and a bearded General Mordechai Gur (to his right) on the Temple Mount on June 7, 1967. Read an excerpt from Goren’s diary at the end of today’s blog below.

Let’s repeat again today the immortal words Gen. Mordechai Gur as Israeli paratroopers took the Temple Mount in the 1967 war.

Gur announced to Israel and the world:

THE TEMPLE MOUNT IS OURS!

We must continue to always remember Gur’s words and never forget that Israel has absolute sovereignty over the site that was home to our First and Second Temples.

However, from the moment that Gen. Mordechai Gur uttered those words, Israel itself has done everything possible to thwart its own sovereignty–and to prohibit Jewish worship at the holiest place in Judaism.

Who was the person most responsible for establishing this ludicrous situation? None other than Moshe Dayan.

Another picture from June 1967--this one of Moshe Dayan sitting with members of the Islamic Wakf--and telling them that he has decided that Jews will be able to visit the Mount but not pray there. Dayan, a secular Jew, had no religious feelings toward the Mount at all.

It is a pathetic situation that never fails to confound your humble servant. What on earth gave Dayan the right to decide for all Jews what Jewish rights would be on the Temple Mount?  In short, nothing gave him the right, but Dayan’s decision continues to have severe repercussions up until today.

Take, for example, what happened yesterday.*

A “Geography and History” class at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem had arranged for its professor and 15 students to take a tour of the Temple Mount. The tour was a compulsory element of the course.

Among the students was 1 “religious” student wearing a kipa (the religious head covering worn by Jews). Upon arriving that at the Mughrabi ramp checkpoint, the student covered his kipa with a cap so as not to create trouble for him and his class.

Nevertheless, he was singled out by the Israeli police who told him that he could not participate in the tour “because he was religious.”

At which point the shocked professor and remaining students argued unsuccessfully that the student should be allowed to go up to the Mount.  They finally–and your humble servant is appalled that they did–took the tour and the religious student was left at the checkpoint.

How are we to describe this event?

Outrageous? Blatantly discriminatory? Disgusting? Pathetic?

Your humble servant would use all of the above and more.

The fact that a Jew in religious clothing cannot go up to the holiest place in Judaism–a place which under the complete sovereignty of Israel–is simply nauseating.

Excerpt from Rabbi Shlomo Goren’s diary:

“When I arrived in Jerusalem, I was told that Motta Gur was in the Rockefeller Museum. The fighting continued, and the Arabs were bombing us from the Augusta Victoria church. At this time, there were already many prisoners of Jordanian Legion Rockefeller Museum, including senior officers and even generals, all sitting on the floor.

Gur said he had ordered the army not to conquer the Old City – it had to circle it, but not conquer it. I asked him if he was able to conquer it, and he answered, “Yes, no problem. But I have been instructed by the government not to enter the Old City. “

I told him he was going to pass up the chance of his life: ‘You have received a historic opportunity to liberate and conquer Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, and you do nothing? I take responsibility – let’s go together to the Old City. If you are put in prison, I’ll go with you. It is worth it to die for Jerusalem. You’re going to miss the unique chance, after two thousand years, for us to seize Jerusalem!'”
