TODAY’S BLOG:

Back on July 16, 2014, in the midst of the Israel-Hamas war, four Palestinian children aged 9-11 were killed while supposedly playing football (soccer) on a beach in Gaza. At the time, your humble servant wrote this:

“The news story of the last 18 hours that has enraptured the international media and the leftist Israeli media has been the tragic story of the 4 Palestinian children who were killed on a beach near a pier at the small Gaza harbor yesterday afternoon.”

Then, based on an account by journalist Peter Beaumont of the Guardian newspaper published in Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, israelstreet continued with the following information:

—————

“1. The neighborhood around the harbor is a terrorist missile launching area.

Beaumont: ‘They shoot missiles (against Israel) from this neighborhood . . .’

2. The IDF has repeatedly attacked the area.

Haaretz:  ‘Beaumont, who has been in Gaza for the last nine days, said that during the time he has been at the hotel, that area of the harbor has been hit by the IDF at least three times.’

Your humble servant mentions all of this today because an Israeli investigation conducted by the Military Advocate General’s office into this incident was published yesterday and completely exonerated all IDF troops involved.

A part of that report states:

“Factual collected by Military Police investigators indicate that the incident occurred in an area that was known for a long time as a compound of the marine police and Hamas naval force, which is used only terrorists. Immediately prior to the event, intelligence crystallized that activists of the Hamas naval force would gather at the military compound for preparations to carry out combat operations against the IDF.

The Military Advocate General found that the attack process in question accorded with Israeli domestic law and international law requirements. The decision to attack was taken by the competent authorities, and the attack was aimed at figures who were understood to be militants from Hamas’s Naval Forces, who had gathered in order to prepare to carry out military activities against the IDF (Israel Defense Forces).

When IDF aerial surveillance spotted four people running towards a shed next to the compound, officials believed them to be Hamas militants, the report says. The IDF struck the area with two missiles . . .

Back on July 17th last year, I summed up by saying:

What in the world were the children doing out a beach at a Hamas location from which missiles had been repeatedly launched and which had been repeatedly attacked?

According to yesterday’s report, that question has yet to be answered:

“Tragically, in the wake of the incident it became clear that the outcome of the attack was the death of four children who had entered the military compound for reasons that remain unclear.”

Note: By the way, the Military Advocate’s report is not the final word in the international arena. The Palestinians have vowed to take the case to The Hague.
