**Another arson and vandalism attack on an Israeli synagogue:

Not only are Arab terrorists attacking Christian churches and Muslim mosques in Israel, they continue their assault on Jewish synagogues as well. As attacks go, yesterday’s attack at the synagogue on King George Street in Jerusalem caused relatively little damage.

Ashes are all that remain of the Torah curtain (picture: 0404).

Fortunately the fire that was set to the curtain in front of the Torah was put out before the synagogue itself could catch on fire, and the swastikas that defaced the walls of the synagogue can be covered over.

But the amazing thing is how no Israeli mainstream media and no international media even mentioned one word about this hate crime in their news coverage yesterday. If a mosque or a church had been attacked in the same way, it would have been worldwide news.

**Speaking of worldwide media attention:

Yesterday, Al-Jazeera, the BBC, and CNN (your humble servant was watching all three) ran nonstop news coverage of the death of 51 year old Palestinian Falah Zamel Abu Maria. According to so-called “journalists” reporting on the incident, IDF soldiers arrived at Zamel’s house in Beit Ummar near Hebron, broke into the house, and proceeded to shoot Zamel in the chest. He died shortly thereafter at a hospital in Hebron.

Of course these media painted the event as “the IDF murdered another Palestinian in the occupied West Bank”.

Here is what actually happened.

Soldiers from the IDF Kfir Brigade were in the terrorist hotbed of Beit Ummar early Thursday morning searching for several wanted terrorists. One of them was Mohammed Zamel Abu Maria, the son of Falah.

They arrived at the Abu Maria home and attempted to serve a warrant for his arrest. At this point, the father of the terrorist and several of his brothers attacked the soldiers. The father, in particular, attempted to strangle a soldier, and they began to leave the house.

As they left the house, the father led the family in a further life-threatening assault on the soldiers–this time with a hail of “rocks” and other projectiles (concrete blocks and bricks) thrown from the roof. To stop the assault, the soldiers (or a soldier) opened fire hitting the father twice in the chest. The terrorist son that the IDF was pursuing was also hit in the leg.

By the way, both father and son had previously served time in Israeli prison for terrorism.

**Speaking of Palestinian terrorism:

There have been more than 50 Palestinian terror attacks in Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem in the last 4 days involving stabbings, “rocks”, Molotov cocktails, arson, ramming with cars, and shooting.

Seven Israelis have been wounded including three soldiers, three policemen, and one civilian. All of the wounds were moderate, and all of those wounded have been released from the hospital.

**The Coalition moves to reform the Israeli judiciary:

As everyone who regularly reads this blog knows, the Israeli judicial system is in sore need of reform. Extremely activist judges, virtually all of whom come from left side of the political spectrum, have rendered a series of opinions over the past few years which have supported those who seek to undermine Israel.

One way to remedy this situation is to control appointments to secular courts.

Yesterday, the Coalition took a dramatic step toward changing the composition of the Judiciary by choosing two new members of the Judicial Selection Committee. What was supposed to happen was that a “leftist” member of the opposition and a “rightist” member of the Coalition would join new Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked on the Committee.

What happened, however, is that the opposition member of the Coalition that was chosen was none other than Robert Ilatow of the Yisrael Beiteinu party. Ilatow is further to the “right” than most members of the Likud party. The Coalition member who was chosen is Likud member Nurit Koren.

**The Iranian Appeasement Agreement is even worse than we thought:

It turns out that the secret annexes to the Agreement which the Obama Administration was loathe to turn over to the U.S. Congress contain the information that Iran will be monitoring itself.

In particular, one annex declares that the military site of Parchin where Iran has admitted to testing nuclear detonators will be completely off-limit to IAEA inspectors and that Iran itself will be providing soil samples to the IAEA to confirm its compliance with the Agreement.

As one Israeli diplomat said yesterday: “Not only did the Iranians receive a warning time of 24 days (before inspection) to clean things up, apparently they don’t even need to worry because they’re the ones collecting the samples.”

Unbelievable.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Michael Oren.

Michael Oren.

Former Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren who is now a Knesset Legislator with the Koolanu party was speaking yesterday at the Knesset on the occasion of the renewal of the Knesset’s Christian Allies Caucus.

He had this to say to a group of American Christian leaders in the room:

“U.S.-Israel relations go back to spiritual ties. God speaks only one language and it’s the language [Hebrew] in which we are yelling at each other in the next hall. Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist would today be considered Jewish settlers in Bethlehem. We are on a holy mission to ensure the Jewish state remains strong and beloved.”

To begin with, your humble servant wonders how Oren knows about God’s linguistic ability.

But of course, Oren is right that Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist would be considered Jewish “settlers” today by the United Nations, European Union, Obama Administration, and other blithering idiots around the world. Except for the Palestinians of course who claim that Jesus, Mary and John the Baptist were all Palestinians.

However–pardon the digression–Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist certainly would not have been considered Jewish settlers in Bethlehem 2100 years ago because Bethlehem was a Jewish town. It was the birthplace of David, and the place he was crowned King of Israel.

Bethlehem remained a thriving Jewish town until the Roman Emperor Hadrian killed or enslaved all the Jews of Bethlehem during the Bar Kochba Revolt (132-135 CE)–following which Hadrian also tried to erase the words “Jew” and “Judea” from the lexicon by inventing the word “Palestine.”

But back to Oren whose remarks are well-taken here on israelstreet.

We are on a mission to ensure the Jewish state remains strong and beloved.
