Israel’s Insane ‘Happy Ramadan’ To Hamas

The new 5-star Al-Mashtal hotel in Gaza. How could it have been built with such a shortage of construction materials in Gaza? What will the guests eat with such a shortage of food in Gaza? No doubt the Presidential Suite has been reserved for Ehud Barak in return for his Ramadan goodwill gestures to Hamas and the people of Gaza.

The new 5-star Al-Mashtal hotel in Gaza. How could it have been built with such a shortage of construction materials in Gaza? What will guests eat with such a food shortage in Gaza?

So-called Israeli ‘Defense Minister’ Ehud Barak has truly lost his mind. From suggesting that Israel should apologize to Turkey last week for the Mavi Marmara incident (which was instigated and carried out by Turkey), Barak has just announced goodwill Ramadan gestures to Hamas that he has approved starting yesterday.

Now, in addition to allowing shipments of strawberries, flowers, and peppers to the Netherlands, Israel will allow Hamas to export furniture and textile products to markets throughout Europe and the Middle East and agricultural products to Jordan. More than this, Israel will astonishingly permit 10 privately owned factories to import construction materials under the direction and supervision of international NGOs–the same NGOs that seek to delegitimize Israel all over the world through boycott, divestment, and sanctions. And even more, Israel will now provide an additional 3 million cubic meters of drinking water that it doesn’t have for its own citizens and agriculture to Gaza.

It is long past time for Barak and Israel to get over the insane attitude that it is Israel’s responsibility to take care of the people in the Gaza Strip. Israel withdrew from every square millimeter of Gaza in 2005. The Rafah crossing from Gaza to Egypt is open. If the Gazans want to export goods and agricultural products, let them do it through Egypt. If the Gazans want to import construction materials, let them do it through Egypt. If the Gazans need more drinking water, let them build a canal from the Nile River to Gaza. Why in the world is it Israel’s responsibility to support the Hamas government or the people of Gaza that elected it?

Sometimes I just want to scream at the world. This is the same Hamas that the IDF estimates has smuggled in more than 10,000 rockets into Gazaand fires them everyday at the residents of southern Israel almost killing an Israeli woman just two days ago. This is the same Hamas that has now held Gilad Shalit for over five years with no contact with anyone–leading many to believe that he is now dead. This is the same Hamas that announced for the millionth time last week that it will never negotiate with Israel, never recognize Israel, and will continue tirelessly striving for the destruction of Israel.

But hey, happy Ramadan to you Hamas and to the people in Gaza who elected you,  from Ehud Barak and the government of Israel!
